Job Title: Director of Hardware Engineering

Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and innovative Director of Hardware Engineering to lead and inspire a multidisciplinary engineering team in the design, development, and optimization of cutting-edge hardware products. This role requires a strong technical background in hardware engineering and hands-on experience managing product development from concept through to production. The Director of Hardware Engineering will play a key role in driving technical excellence, cross-functional collaboration, and process improvement to deliver high-quality, reliable products that meet customer needs and company goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Management
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of talented hardware engineers specializing in mechanical, electrical, and embedded systems design.
- Establish clear objectives, delegate tasks, and provide guidance to ensure timely and quality delivery of engineering projects.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to align engineering goals with business objectives.
- Product Development
- Drive end-to-end hardware product development, from concept design, prototyping, testing, and validation through to manufacturing and release.
- Work closely with product management, software engineering, and other teams to define product requirements and ensure feasibility.
- Oversee design reviews, risk assessments, and design validation to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and customer expectations.
- Technical Expertise
- Leverage technical expertise in areas such as PCB design, high-speed circuitry, analog/digital design, or other specialized fields to solve complex engineering challenges.
- Identify and implement best practices for hardware design, testing, and validation to improve product quality and reliability.
- Strategic Planning
- Develop and implement engineering roadmaps that align with company goals and ensure the long-term success of hardware development initiatives.
- Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices, incorporating relevant advancements into product strategies.
- Budget & Resource Management
- Manage project budgets, resources, and timelines, optimizing costs without compromising quality.
- Work with procurement and supply chain teams to evaluate, select, and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and manufacturers.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in hardware engineering, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership or management role.
- Proven experience in hardware design and development, including successful product launches from concept through production.
- Strong understanding of product lifecycle management (PLM) and manufacturing processes.
- Excellent leadership, project management, and communication skills.
- Experience with compliance standards (e.g., FCC, CE) and design for manufacturability (DFM) principles.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with CAD and simulation tools such as Altium Designer, SolidWorks, and SPICE.
- Background in embedded systems or experience with IoT products is highly desirable.
- Proficient in root cause analysis, failure analysis, and risk management.
