Position Summary
The Plumbing Service Manager oversees a team of service plumbers responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining plumbing systems in residential and commercial buildings. This role involves close collaboration with service and installation technicians, dispatch staff, and other managers to ensure customer satisfaction and achieve departmental goals. Acting as a senior representative of the company, the Plumbing Service Manager also communicates directly with customers, vendors, and suppliers to provide clear updates on job and project status and requirements.
Key Responsibilities
The Plumbing Service Manager directs daily operations of the Plumbing Service Department by successfully performing the following tasks, duties and responsibilities:
- Schedule, direct, and provide technical support to technicians to meet service demands and customer expectations.
- Interview, hire, and train technicians to align with workload requirements and company standards.
- Supervise technicians in the execution of equipment repair, installation, start-up, and operational duties to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Review technicians' work to ensure compliance with quality standards, safety protocols, and productivity goals; provide recommendations for improvement.
- Conduct performance appraisals for technicians and set improvement objectives in line with company requirements.
- Establish and maintain a regular training program to keep technicians updated on the latest service techniques and safety procedures.
- Facilitate group and individual meetings for training, evaluation, and communication; participate in departmental safety and informational meetings.
- Collaborate with dispatch to ensure personnel are scheduled according to skill level and training needs.
- Communicate daily with dispatch regarding project updates, estimated completion times, labor hours, and materials used.
- Liaise with vendors and factory representatives on warranty issues, product recalls, and operational concerns.
- Develop and monitor departmental budgets, goals, and objectives to ensure profitability.
- Review work orders, invoices, and time reports for accuracy to maintain timely cash flow and minimize accounts receivable.
- Ensure timely ordering of required parts to meet project deadlines.
- Ensure compliance with company and departmental policies by all technicians.
- Collaborate with other departmental managers to achieve company and departmental objectives.
Position Requirements
- Minimum of five years of experience in plumbing management
- Comprehensive knowledge of plumbing trades
- Technical aptitude, including familiarity with local codes and effective problem-solving skills
- Exceptional leadership abilities to drive team productivity and maintain high work standards
- Superior verbal and written communication skills, with effective conflict resolution capabilities
- Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and assignments
- Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general software navigation
- Strong commitment to personal growth and the ability to inspire technicians toward continuous improvement
- Professional demeanor and ability to instill pride in workmanship within the team
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Ability and willingness to work non-standard schedule: nights, weekends and holidays as/if required
Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range: $150,000 - $175,000.
