Position Summary
Ensures that patients receive a professional financial screening and accurate payment determinations to all patient types while maintaining compliance with the Ambulatory Financial Clearance Policy. Must be capable of articulating information in a courteous, clear and informative manner to patients, guarantors, family members, clinical staff, other hospital personnel, vendors, physicians and their office staff. Maintains patient confidentiality policies Critical to maintaining positive account outcomes, Financial Counselor are responsible for resolving account inquiries and handling point of service collections.
Position Responsibilities
Standard Work Duties: LRHPG Ambulatory Financial Counselor
- Assists patients inquiring about their accounts or to make a payment, and makes every effort to resolve any discrepancies by Conducting thorough and accurate analysis of each account and payment history in EPIC and Cerner. (Via inbound calls, walk in patients, MyChart messages, or mail.)
- Obtain demographic and confidential financial information and provide financial screening, communicating patient's uninsured portion and securing payment or payment arrangements within LRHPG Ambulatory guidelines. Reviews appointment schedules (DAR) & available work queues at least 5 days prior to patient visit and makes every attempt to contact patients to collect pre-payments and remind them of expected amounts at time of visit or ensure that payment arrangements are within LRHPG guidelines
- Works with patient/guarantor to resolve complex situations through knowledge base of financial counseling principles, LRH and other government rules and regulations and conducts a thorough and accurate analysis of a patient's financial account.
- Follows through and assists others on all patient processing requirements within the patient accounting system utilizing on-line and internet applications available to screen patients for insurance eligibility, address verification, credit history, etc., setting-up insurance as appropriate for rebilling and updating insurance plans within the patient guarantor account.
- Works return mail via paper, work queue or reports to make every attempt to obtain and enter correct demographics.
- Works with external collection agencies to ensure patient accounts are accurate and current.
- Reviews accounts/reports for charity approvals and enters adjustments for approval in EPIC
- Timely monitoring of reports/work queues/email/In-Basket. Take appropriate follow-up action on all correspondence using all resources available.
- Works in collaboration with Medicaid Eligibility vendors and follow-up teams to ensure patients receive appropriate financial screening.
- Work special projects/reports (i.e. assisting CBO, guarantor merges, Waystar-(EOB Review/Returned Mail), Truist (Bank), Axiamed (Credit card vendor)
