This job will be onsite full time for the first couple of months until the person is familiar with this company and its workflow and then some work from home will be available.
The client is looking for someone who is looking for career growth. Ideally, would like to hire someone who has previous experience at a CPA firm doing Tax and compliance work.
This position pays between $45K - $60K Per Year
Position Overview:
The Tax and Compliance Coordinator is responsible for coordinating tax-related activities, trust accounting reporting, and all related compliance tasks. This role ensures that all reporting and compliance requirements are met in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, and internal policies.
The coordinator will also oversee the process of obtaining date of death appraisals for real estate, closely held companies, and other assets, providing essential support to the professional trustee.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Tax Coordination:
- Coordinate tax-related activities and ensure accurate and timely reporting of tax information.
- Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations and update processes and policies accordingly.
- Liaise with tax professionals and authorities to address inquiries and ensure compliance.
2. Trust Accounting Reporting:
- Oversee the preparation and review of trust accounting reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate reporting of trust account activities.
3. Appraisals Coordination:
- Coordinate the process of obtaining date of death appraisals for real estate, closely held companies, and other assets.
- Work with appraisers and valuation experts to ensure timely and accurate appraisals.
- Maintain records of appraisals and ensure they are incorporated into trust account reporting.
4. Regulatory Compliance:
- Monitor and stay current with all relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines affecting Estate/Trust reporting.
- Ensure trustee activities comply with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular compliance reviews and audits to identify and address potential compliance issues.
5. Policy and Procedure Management:
- Develop, review, and update tax and compliance policies and procedures for the trust department.
- Ensure that policies and procedures are effectively communicated and implemented within the department.
6. **Liaison and Communication**:
- Serve as a point of contact for regulatory bodies, tax authorities, appraisers, and external auditors.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure a cohesive approach to compliance and risk management.
7. Continuous Improvement:
- Stay informed about industry best practices and emerging trends in tax coordination, compliance, and trust services.
- Recommend and implement improvements to the tax and compliance program to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as an associate tax preparer or tax manager, in tax compliance, trust accounting, or a related field, preferably within a trust department, financial institution or CPA practice.
- Strong knowledge of tax regulations, fiduciary responsibilities, and relevant compliance requirements.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with staff at all levels.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with tax and compliance management software.
**Working Conditions**:
- Primarily office-based with occasional travel for training and meetings.
- May require occasional overtime to meet deadlines or during audits.
