Our client, a prestigious university in Princeton, New Jersey, is seeking an Information Technology Specialist. The Information Technology Specialist assists with installation and operation work to support research and enterprise computing. Candidates who have experience in production data center environments and installation/removal of sensitive IT equipment are strongly preferred. Qualified candidates will have hands-on infrastructure/hardware experience as opposed to end-user support experience. This position is targeting a start date of 1/13/25 and is anticipating the duration to be approximately 12 weeks +/-.
Only local candidates who are able to work on-site will be considered for this role. Interested candidates must have a valid driver’s license and be able to report to 4 different on campus and local data centers.
This is a full-time, short-term, on-site position.
Pay rate: $28.00-31.00/hour.
Responsibilities
- Installation and operation work to support research and enterprise computing, including:
- Installing servers, storage, and data communication systems
- Powering equipment on and off
- Replacing failing disks, memory, or other compute sub-systems
- Mounting and dismounting removable media into compute and/or other communications systems
- Software tasks that require physical proximity to the physical servers/hardware
- Perform system hardware, software and/or troubleshooting tasks to physical systems onsite
- Use the University ServiceNow service management system to open and update tickets
- Notification of equipment and software deliveries, and processing related paperwork
- Project work involving physical audits of equipment, updating labelling or documentation, and partnering with stakeholders to ensure their equipment is accurately reflected in ServiceNow
Essential Qualifications
- Strong communication skills and the ability to follow directions
- Exhibits professionalism and punctuality
- Good organizational skills
- Experience in production data center environments and installation/removal of sensitive IT equipment
- Foundational computer skills and a level of comfort working with technology
- A strong commitment to implementing and maintaining best practices around University security protocols
- Able to lift 50-75lbs
- Valid driver’s license required
