This is an open position with Toledo Edison Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [TE]
Location: Holland, OH
Duties:
Representing the Company and customers while engaging in the work of construction and maintenance on transmission and distribution lines (overhead and underground) in an energized or de-energized state. Performs such duties as:
1. Receiving, planning and starting personal routine work assignments in conjunction with other Sections to satisfy customer and Company needs;
2. Under general directive supervision, works with employees assigned to assist with work activities;
3. Diagnosing and determining extent of trouble; locating faults and restoring service to the T&D system and associated equipment, in accordance with established safety practices and procedures;
4. Maintaining the proper material, tools and equipment necessary to perform any work required in an effective and efficient manner;
5. Installing, removing, laying out, connecting, disconnecting per Company standards and specifications: 6. Fittings and guys for poles, towers and other structures; preparing poles for lines and equipment; installing and changing insulation assemblies, pole top ridge pins and upright timber extensions, making all types of splices and terminating cable into equipment, phasing out and meggering after completion of joints;
7. Protective equipment and devices and temporary protective grounds;
8. Cables and equipment in manholes and vaults, multiple connectors, potheads, terminators, laterals, and disconnecting devices;
9. Checking transformers, voltage levels, current transformers, all types of metering, and other equipment; changing voltage taps, banking transformers; phasing out all types of circuits;
- Performing steel tower and structural work; placing and connecting steel members of sections; rigging and handling gin pole during erection;
- Setting up and operating secondary fault-locating equipment; locating faults or other trouble; assisting others in locating primary faults;
- Working with "hot line" tools and equipment;
- Switching transmission and distribution circuits; cutting and tapping to transfer circuit loads; performing switching and tagging operations in unattended substations all in connection with line crew work; collecting requested data;
- Perform checking and testing of equipment and tools; transformer voltage cutovers; hazardous material sampling;
- Patrolling the transmission and distribution systems;
- Painting poles, towers and other structures;
- Performing work of cutting and welding, operating pole trucks, all types of cranes and related equipment;
- Keeping work area in good order; cleaning up after completion of the work;
- Instructing and training employees in the work and working with employees of higher classification and performing other duties in accordance with the section of the "Foreward" to the Job Manual entitled "Duties";
- Inspecting, constructing, maintaining, removing and repairing conductor fixtures, devices and other associated equipment on T&D facilities;
- Perform the duties of Lineworker B.
Qualifications:
Must meet the Company's requirements as to General Qualifications and, in addition:
1. Must have the ability to successfully complete the job skill demonstrations for Lineworker A and must have successfully completed job skill demonstration for Lineworker B, and lower classification in the line of progression, or the equivalent, along with successful completion of the associated progressional tests.
2. Must have a thorough working knowledge of: 3. The layout, functions and operation of the circuits and equipment of the transmission and distribution systems both overhead and underground;
4. The elements of applied electricity including AC and DC circuits;
5. The functions, care and operation of construction and maintenance equipment, as required for the work;
6. The practices and procedures for clearing and grounding lines and the equipment for the protection of the public, personnel and property;
7. The mechanical and dielectric characteristics and properties of the materials used in making cables and cable joints;
8. The practices, principles of operation and the proper application of equipment as prescribed by the Company for safety, first aid, fire fighting and prevention;
9. Phasing sets, voltmeters, ammeters, wattmeters and/or other test equipment;
- Must have a working knowledge of equipment and tools, pole truck operations and crane and derrick operations;
- Basic understanding of National Electric Code & NESC;
- Must be able to work from complex prints and specifications;
- Must have the ability to receive, interpret and pass on orders and instructions in a manner that will maintain harmony and safety, and obtain cooperation and satisfactory work results from men assigned to the work;
- Must have the ability to work with customers tactfully and intelligently.
Must have demonstrated ability in safe performance of the duties of Lineworker B and lower classifications.
