Job Overview
Under the direction of the Engineering Supervisor, the Electro Mechanical Design Engineer will be tasked with the design, configuration, and testing of Gleason’s electro mechanical cable management products. The candidate will ensure these products surpass internal production and quality benchmarks, comply with all applicable regulatory standards, meet customers/application requirements, and are delivered on schedule.
A Day In The Life
- The following roles and responsibilities will be required to fulfill the position and are not all inclusive.
- Design and develop electro mechanical systems and components utilized for cable management solutions, ensuring they adhere to engineering and production standards, applicable codes, and customer specifications, while also managing costs and timelines.
- Utilize CAD software to create, update, and manage precise 3D models, drawings, and technical specifications.
- Organize and execute electrical/mechanical tests on cable management products to verify their function and compliance with intended customer applications.
- Ensure conformance to industry regulatory standards for safety, quality, and manufacturability such as ASME, NEMA, UL, CSA, etc.
- Interdepartmental collaboration to support operations, addressing and resolving any technical issues or customer concerns.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, new technologies, and advancements in the field of electro mechanical design to enhance innovation and efficiency in design processes.
- Utilize SAP to input and manage material master data, assembly Bills of Materials (BOM)s, and Document Information Records (DIRs).
- Develop and implement programs for programmable logic controllers (PLCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs) and other essential control devices, while also maintaining documentation for program functionality and communication/interface protocols.

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or Electro Mechanical Engineering or related field.
Experience:
Three or more years of full-time work experience related to this job position is required in addition to the educational requirement.

- Proficient in reading and analyzing technical documents such as specifications, professional journals, and blueprints. Skilled in creating detailed reports, test procedures, and user manual documentation for product installation, operation, and maintenance.
- Demonstrates strong communication abilities with vendors, customers, and team members.
- Capable in designing and executing tests to assess the electrical and mechanical performance of cable management solutions, including report formulation and analysis of test outcomes.
- Competent in applying mathematical concepts applicable to electro mechanical designs such as structural and component stress/strain analysis, horsepower and torque calculations, fundamentals of plane and solid geometry, trigonometry, and other pertinent fields of study.
- Highly skilled in 3D CAD design, with a preference for experience in Autodesk Inventor.
- Adept in languages and concepts commonly used in controls systems such as ladder logic, C++, Python, and others.
- Understanding of controls hardware configuration, I/O setup, and troubleshooting, coupled with excellent knowledge of electronic components.
- Ability to address and resolve practical challenges, manage various concrete variables in environments with limited standardization, and interpret diverse instructions presented in written, verbal, diagrammatic, or schedule formats.
- Preferred: Experience with finite element analysis (FEA).
- Preferred: Experience with SAP procedures and operations.
