The Corporate Sanitation Director provides critical leadership in sanitation and sanitary design. This position is instrumental in the development and implementation of standards and policies designed to ensure all processes, equipment, and facilities may be cleaned and sanitized to maintain product safety and quality. This position will collaborate closely with Operations, Quality/Food Safety, Engineering, and Safety to align objectives and activities company requirements. Additionally, this position will drive vision, purpose and communicate effectively the expectations to ensure that leaders manage sanitation and food safety efforts at facilities and are given proper tools and guidance to produce desired results.
Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain industry-leading corporate sanitation standards and policies for dry cleaning operations as well as wet cleaning as needed.
- Work cross functionally and collaboratively with all Plant Operations, Corporate QFS, Product Development, Chemical Vendor, and others to implement, direct and continuously improve sanitation programs and policies.
- Establish and monitor key sanitation metrics (such as chemical usage, water usage, MSS completion percentage (Periodic Equipment Cleaning [PEC], Periodic Infrastructure Cleaning [PIC]) and sanitation effectiveness) at all manufacturing facilities to identify, react to emerging issues and implement preventive actions.
- Track, analyze, and develop improvements of plant sanitation and food protection programs
- Lead Sanitation business initiatives across the enterprise
- Creates and directs Sanitation Strategy for company based on detailed site and product risk assessments.
- Manages the sanitation cycle-time with efficiency targeted metrics, extended cleaning request validations, sanitation chemical cost controls (cutting overall costs where there are opportunities), sanitation assurance/effectiveness programs, integrations of new facilities/acquisitions to ensure sanitation standards are documented, communicated and effectively implemented.
- Develop and conduct assessments (deep dives, audits, and inspections) of sanitation systems, procedures, and manual cleaning practices at plants for compliance to standards and identification of opportunities for improvement.
- Assesses/Audits any identified Sanitation Preventive Controls in Food Safety Plans.
- Collaborate with Safety to ensure sanitation procedures and activities are thorough and protect our employees while establishing compliance to regulatory entities such as OSHA.
- Provide strategic leadership and build collaborative teams for projects aimed at managing chemical contaminants in incoming raw materials and finished products
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Advanced knowledge of FDA, USDA, HACCP, OSHA requirements.
- Excellent understanding of sanitary design and sanitation procedures in food processing, with particular emphasis on wet/dry cleaned environments.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
- Excellent knowledge of employee safety, food manufacturing processes, and food safety.
- Advanced knowledge in using a full range of statistical and analytical tools and fundamentals.
- Strong relationship building skills.
- Excellent understanding of microbiological organisms and their impact on process design, sanitary design and sanitation.
- Proficient knowledge of food safety systems.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
- This position may travel up to 70% of the time.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelors’ Degree (BA/BS) from a four (4) year college or university, along with 10-15 years of related sanitation management experience in food manufacturing, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Multi-plant site management preferred.
- Experience with government regulatory requirements in the processing of food.
