Job Summary: The Cost Accountant will support the daily activities of the Plant Finance team, focusing on the analysis of shop floor activity and inventory-related issues at the local production facility and third-party manufacturing locations. This role will support cost accounting functions to aid facility operations and act as a true partner and analyst for the Production Team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze shop floor activities to ensure accurate cost allocation and identify areas for cost reduction.
- Monitor and report on inventory levels, variances, and discrepancies.
- Collaborate with the Production Team to provide financial insights and support decision-making processes.
- Conduct regular audits of inventory and production processes to ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures.
- Prepare and maintain cost accounting records, reports, and statements.
- Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts related to production costs.
- Support month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries and reconciliations.
- WIP Analysis and Reconciliation to the General Ledger
- Key Product Batch Reporting – Manufactured/Released/Sold
- Material Usage and Purchase Price Variance Reports
- Develop and implement cost control procedures and systems.
- Provide training and support to production staff on cost accounting practices and procedures.
- Participate in cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Professional certification (e.g., CPA, CMA) is preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in cost accounting, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Perform regular reconciliations of 3rd party warehouses in conjunction with members of the planning group according to a schedule established by Plant Controller.
- Analyze ERP transaction activity throughout the month to ensure that recorded transactions are accurate representations of actual events within the supply chain
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
