Job Description – Safety Director
Reports To: Director of Operations
FLSA: Exempt
Job Summary:
Primarily responsible for leading and managing the company’s safety initiatives and safety loss control programs, and the development of a safety and risk management culture dedicated to being best-in-class. Assures the safety program is designed to comply with OSHA and other construction industry standards.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Leads development of and clearly articulates the company’s safety vision, objectives, strategies, policies, and procedures to build a safety culture dedicated to behaviors which lead to best-in-class results.
- Provides proactive leadership and assumes ownership of building a first-class safety culture by anticipating problems and providing solutions and sharing knowledge with and providing training to all levels of management, field staff, and project teams.
- Creates an environment of learning, mentoring, and empowerment to promote employee engagement.
- Uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions and conclusions, and monitors results to make improvements or take corrective actions.
- Ensures safety & health training meet the needs of both internal and external requirements so staff has the safety training to safely perform tasks and duties.
- Leads incident investigations.
- Manages hazard assessment activities by conducting and/or supervising safety inspections and analyzing inspection and incident data to identify opportunities to develop preventative and corrective practices.
- Develops annual plans and budgets for safety & health initiatives, including training for employees.
- Manages all workers’ compensation and vehicle claims.
- Manage all client and vendor communication as it relates to safety requests.
- Manages return to work and restricted work programs with the company’s workers’ compensation provider.
- Manages administration of motor vehicle records program and the company’s fleet safety program.
- Responsible for all OSHA and Bureau of Labor Statistics related documentation.
- Regularly inspect all personal protective equipment (PPE), including harnesses, lanyards, anchors, etc. to ensure that all equipment is in good working condition in compliance with OSHA standards.
- Visit job sites continuously to ensure employees are using safe work practices in compliance with the company’s safety standards.
- Continually update the company’s Employee Safety Handbook, Safety Data Sheets, and Toolbox Talks.
Qualifications, Competencies, & Abilities:
- Structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work with little or no supervision.
- Strong level of attention to detail.
- Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate information and ideas, both verbally and written so others will understand.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and deadlines.
- Work and communicate effectively with individuals at all levels, including executives.

- Environment: Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment.
- Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; to travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
- Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction.
- Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety or related field a plus.
- OHSA certified with working knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and other safety regulations.
- Experience with health and safety management systems.
- 5 plus years of experience.
- Fluent with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of HVAC and piping.
