Job Title: Field Technician
Summary: Under regular supervision, the Field Technician performs basic tasks and projects with lesser complexity. This role relies on established guidelines and/or detailed direction for the installation, decommissioning, and troubleshooting of network equipment and circuits. The technician is responsible for preventative and demand maintenance of the network, critical infrastructure, and materials management. They will become familiar with the company’s systems and applications. In some instances, the technician may be responsible for the outside plant network within a given geographic boundary, including metro and long-haul fibers.
Essential Duties:
- Manage asset processes, including deliveries and replenishing consumables.
- Coordinate shipping and receiving of materials.
- Maintain tools, test sets, and electronic equipment, including fiber optic transmission equipment, lightwave multiplexing equipment, and AC/DC power equipment.
- Assist in the installation, provisioning, testing, and maintenance of DS0 through OC192 services.
- Install and test transmission/switching equipment as needed.
- Troubleshoot network equipment, replace defective modules, track spares, and ensure repairs.
- Monitor and locate routes, assist in executing restoration during service interruptions, and proactively respond to potential problem areas to ensure network integrity.
- Learn all systems and applications required to perform job functions adequately.
- Update installation records, log detailed information on trouble tickets, and provide status updates and reports on assignments.
- Perform preventive/scheduled maintenance and inspections on equipment and critical infrastructure, including HVAC systems, high-voltage electrical systems, and DC power plants.
Basic Qualifications:
- Education Requirements: High School Diploma/GED or 1 year of relevant job experience.
- Relevant job experience includes similar industry roles or essential duties.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl; lift 50 lbs. Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to work in all weather conditions
