Job Summary:
The Medical Laboratory Scientist performs clinical testing varying from automated clinical analyzer tests to assisting with or running high complexity automated ELISA assays. Is responsible for independently preparing samples, operating instrumentation, result analysis, quality control and troubleshooting according to established standard operating procedures. The Medical Laboratory Scientist will understand and assure quality of test results. The Medical Laboratory Scientist reports to the Laboratory Supervisor or Director.
Responsibilities:
- Follows procedures for specimen receipt, handling and processing to ensure specimen integrity.
- Independently run samples on a Roche Cobas clinical analyzer.
- Assist in the performance of ELISA and other clinical testing and quality control according to established laboratory procedures. Records, reviews and verifies test results with all supporting documentation for clinical interpretation.
- Performs regularly scheduled quality control as well as monthly maintenance and calibration of equipment according to laboratory procedures. Performs basic troubleshooting and repair.
- Adheres to policies and safety procedures.
- Contributes to efficient workflow by taking initiative and filling in as needed.
- Performs inventory, restocks laboratory supplies and prepares reagents.
Requirements:
- Experience operating and maintaining immunoassays on a clinical analyzer, preferably Roche Cobas.
- Prefer experience with ELISA testing, preferably in a regulated environment.
- Able to think critically, and collect and interpret information.
- Able to work both in a group setting and independently while demonstrating a high degree of personal and professional initiative.
- Able to follow work plans.
- Adaptable and organized.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a biological or physical science, Medical Technology, or related scientific discipline.
- Current registration/certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist – MT (ASCP or equivalent), or appropriate combination of education and experience.
