Job Title: Director of Employee Relations (ER)
- *This is a Los Angeles Market based role*
Salary - $130,000 - $140,000 USD
Reports To: The Director of Employee Relations will report to SPS In-House Employment Counsel or equivalent leadership.
Overview: SPS is seeking a seasoned professional to lead our Employee Relations function, ensuring compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations across a multi-state operation. We invite experienced former HR Managers, HR Directors, or Employee Relations Directors with a minimum of 5 years in similar roles to apply. A Juris Doctorate is a plus but not required. This position requires expertise in handling employee relations for both blue- and white-collar workforces.
Key Responsibilities:
- Employee Relations Leadership: Provide expert guidance on employee relations issues, including compliance, investigations, disciplinary actions, and terminations. Manage ER/HR resources handling ER matters. Exercise discretion and good, independent decision-making in all matters.
- Policy Management: Develop, review, and maintain all employment policies, ensuring alignment with legal standards and best practices. Train leadership teams as needed.
- Investigations & Legal Compliance: Prepare SPS for various employment-related matters, including litigation, resolution, and compliance.
- Program Oversight: Lead SPS’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program, actively participate in the EHS committee, and support Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives.
- Background Checks: Oversee pre-employment background checks, ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines, and make decisions on background check results as needed.
- Advisory Support: Serve as an advisor for Compensation, Benefits, Recruitment, Health/Safety, and additional HR programs, supporting SPS’s growth and operational needs.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years in Employee Relations within medium to large organizations, preferably in fast-growing, multi-state operations. Prior work background in retail or services organization a plus.
- Strong working knowledge of employment laws in multiple states, such as but not limited to CA, OR, WA, NV, TX, and IL.
- Proven expertise conducting investigations, handling compliance matters, and supporting workplace diversity and inclusion efforts.
- Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS programs.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with commitment to clients and team satisfaction.
- Capable of handling high-stress situations, while helping to diffuse employee matters and adapting quickly to changes.

- Solid understanding of HR principles, including various labor/EEO laws, Fair Pay, and state-specific regulations.
Physical & Travel Requirements:
- Ability to perform office tasks requires fine and gross motor skills, and to work for extended periods while sitting, standing, or walking.
- SPS North American HQ offices are in New York City. Candidate hired must be open to working North American time zones to meet business needs.
- Capable of effectively from home with a remote team. Some in-office work will be required based on business needs.
- Travel to SPS work sites may be required based on business needs/nature of work.
