Job Title: Technical Writer

Location: Hybrid - Baltimore, MD (2-3 days/week)
Terms: 6+month contract with perm potential
Pay: $33 p/hr
Public Safety Department is seeking a Technical Writer to join our team. The Technical Writer is responsible for the preparation, review, revision, and maintenance of technical documents including software and systems engineering, system operations, testing, and end user documentation for electronic safety and security (ESS) systems. We are looking for someone who has a technical background doing hands on systems engineering work as well as documentation/Technical Writing.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Interview ESS systems owners, engineers, and subject matter experts regarding the business use of and technical design of ESS systems.
- Read and interpret manufacturer technical user guides, administrator manuals, and installation guides
- Under general direction, produces ESS specific engineering and systems operations documentation
- Under general direction, produces user manuals, training manuals, and other documentation
- Under general direction, produces IT policy and procedures documentation
- Under general direction, produces Information Systems Continuity Plans (ISCP)
- Standard operating procedures, instructions, presentation development, supporting inventory management administrative (licenses for software, know where to go to find that).
- Applies concepts for technical writing based on engineering drawings, technical information from engineering documentation, consultations with engineers and subject matter experts, and other available sources
- Support an internal documentation library
- Works on all phases of documentation

- Uses multiple word processing and presentation tools such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio etc
- Uses network and cloud-based file sharing such as Microsoft O365

- The scale is that of a large Enterprise.

- Complexity is at the medium level.

Minimum Qualifications
- 2-5 years related experience.
- Adobe Acrobat as an editor not just a user.
- Bachelor's Degree preferred, additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
