Job Summary
The Project Engineer is responsible for supporting the planning, design, budgeting, and execution of capital projects within the engineering department. The role involves coordinating with internal teams and external contractors to ensure that projects are completed on time, within scope, and under budget while adhering to safety and regulatory standards. This position supports the development and implementation of efficient and cost-effective project solutions
Job Responsibilities
- Assist in the management of capital projects, including project planning, design, budgeting, and scheduling.
- Develop project scopes, cost estimates, and schedules for multiple projects simultaneously with oversight from supervisor and team members.
- Ensure all projects comply with industry regulations (SQF, USDA, PSM/RMP) and company standards.
- Serve as the point of contact for contractors and internal teams to ensure alignment with project requirements and timelines.
- Regularly report on project status, budget progress, and any risks or issues to the Director of Engineering or Senior Project Engineers.
- Communicate project progress and any challenges that could impact cost or schedule to relevant stakeholders.
- Support the development and design of project plans, including technical documents and drawings in coordination with Consulting Engineers for stamped approvals.
- Analyze processes and recommend improvements for operational efficiency and cost reduction.
- Assist with resource allocation and ensure effective management of project resources.
- Contractor and Vendor Management:
- Oversee contractors, ensuring adherence to timelines, safety standards, and quality requirements.
- Manage vendor relationships to ensure that materials and equipment are sourced and delivered on time.
- Conduct site visits to monitor project progress and ensure compliance with safety regulations and project specifications.
- Address any on-site issues and coordinate with contractors to ensure timely project delivery.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as well as industry standards and safety policies.
- Implement and monitor safety policies and procedures on all project sites.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including technical reports, progress updates, and budget tracking.
- Provide project presentations to senior leadership as needed.
- Perform other related duties as directed
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in MS Project, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Demonstrated experience managing contractors and coordinating with multiple stakeholders.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
Equivalent experience in lieu of a degree may be considered.
Experience
3+ years of experience in industrial engineering or project management, preferably within food manufacturing or related industries.
