Senior Structural Engineer

Western Steel Design is a full-service structural engineering design firm that provides engineering, design, and project management services to various clients in the conventional and PEMB industries. We focus on building analysis, engineering, take-off, and preparation of construction documents for steel buildings. We seek a full-time Senior Structural Engineer to help us achieve our company mission. Our company is SolutionCentricTM, and Western Steel Design focuses on the scope gap solutions point of distinction. This person will be part of the Engineering team.
Western Steel Design provides services to Western Steel Buildings. For this reason, our primary client is the company’s National Sales and Operations Division, which primarily comprises the estimating, project management, and sales departments. This position will require working with departments and directly with clients from the traditional client pool, such as architectural firms, developers, general contractors, detailing firms, and third-party structural engineering firms.
Responsibilities include:
- Prepares computer analyses and calculations per Building Code and local requirements.
- Initiates discussion within the engineering team to arrive at design solutions that give the best value for a limited constructed cost.
- Prepare preliminary design packages, including primary and secondary framing take-off for the estimating department, as required.
- Research national and local codes, interpret grey areas, and recommend appropriate design criteria for quick budgetary purposes.
- Review and seal construction documents for permit submission to building departments as required.
- The Senior Structural Engineer develops structural drawings requirements, as applicable, with the BIM Manager.
- With appropriate support, ensure designs are constructible. Understands construction techniques, limitations, and relative costs.
Minimum requirements:
- Graduation from a four-year ABET-accredited college.
- Bachelor’s degree in structural or civil engineering, Master’s Degree preferred.
- 7-10 years of relevant work experience in structural steel analysis, design, steel detailing, foundation design and detailing, and preparation of construction documents.
- PE is required, and SE is a plus. Willingness to seal is preferred.
- Experience with seismic design requirements and procedures for structural steel and metal (PEMB) buildings.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work on 5-8 concurrent design projects.
- Familiar with Zoho CRM, Timesheets, Projects, and Drive environments.
- Drafting and Building Information Modeling: AUTOCAD and REVIT are used to develop construction documents.
- Structural analysis and design tools available: RISA Suite, Tekla Suite, Idea StatiCa, MBS, Simpson Strong-tie Anchor Design
- Proficient use of Bluebeam REVU, including the Projects and Sessions modules within the REVU environment.
- Proficient use of the Google for Business environments.
