Nighthawk Flight Systems, Inc., located in Vista, CA, is looking for an experienced Pilot with Technical Writer/Editor skills to engage as a contractor.
Under general direction, this position is responsible for researching, documenting, and developing detailed pilot manuals and procedures. Plans, coordinates, and leads efforts of a small-medium-sized team to complete a project.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collects and accumulates appropriate technical information through researching and analyzing technical data and publications, engineering drawings, test procedures, design specifications/documentation, software description documents, engineering documents, simulator flights, and test aircraft flights, and by interviewing technical experts.
- Ensures documents are developed in accordance with the requested specifications and contractual requirements, including coordinating the development of any necessary illustrations, photographs, or other graphic representations.
- Ensures final materials clearly and effectively communicate the technical information and data.
- Ensures accuracy of documents.
- Corrects technical and editorial errors and may participate in rewrites as necessary.
- Participates in developing and recommending new and/or modifications to documentation/communication policies and procedures.
- May provide direction and training to less experienced staff.
- Additional Functions: Other duties as assigned or required.
Job Qualifications:
- Licensed instrument-rated pilot with multiengine rating and 2,000 or more flight hours as pilot in command.
- Typically requires education or formal training equivalent to completing an associate's degree in a related discipline and three or more years of progressive experience in a technical field. May substitute equivalent professional experience in lieu of education/training.
- Must demonstrate a comprehensive technical understanding of avionics systems and technical writing/editing principles, theories, standards, and concepts.
- Must have strong working knowledge of the development of technical manuals and documentation and strong working knowledge of computer-based tools in producing technical documentation.
- Must possess:

- Strong analytical, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to accurately analyze, document and report.
- Strong knowledge of computer operations and applications.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Tools
- Ability to work both independently and lead in a team environment is essential as is the ability to travel as required.
- Experience installing avionics in military or commercial aircraft is highly desirable.
- Proficiency with DITA XML and CCMS is also highly desirable.
Compensation commensurate with qualifications and level of experience.
