Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated scientist with expertise in synthetic organic chemistry to join our team in advancing the discovery and development of novel small molecules. As a key member of the synthetic chemistry group, you will collaborate closely with medicinal chemists and external CRO partners to design, synthesize, and characterize drug-like compounds optimized for potency, selectivity, pharmacokinetics, and efficacy, with the goal of advancing candidates into human clinical trials.
In this dynamic and interdisciplinary role, you will contribute to achieving ambitious project milestones by integrating innovative synthetic approaches with strategic problem-solving. Your responsibilities will include preparing detailed reports, contributing to publications, and drafting patents to protect intellectual property.
Required Qualifications:
Educational Background:
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry with 1+ years of experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry, specifically within a chemistry department.
Technical Expertise:
- Deep knowledge of organic synthesis, with familiarity with current literature and modern synthetic reactions and methodologies.
- Proven ability to design robust, multi-step synthetic routes that allow for late-stage diversification.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the creativity to troubleshoot and optimize complex reactions independently.
- Experience running reactions in parallel to efficiently deliver final compounds in batches.
- Proficiency in medium-scale synthesis to prepare key intermediates.
- Skilled in the purification and characterization of intermediates and final compounds using modern techniques (e.g., NMR, LC-MS).
Documentation and Reporting:
- Ability to maintain high-quality, detailed experimental records in electronic notebooks (e-notebooks), ensuring data is suitable for publications and patent filings.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Team-oriented, with strong interpersonal skills to exchange information effectively and contribute to a collaborative work environment.
- Scientific curiosity and enthusiasm for contributing to a dynamic research setting.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of presenting rationale, key data, challenges, and accomplishments clearly to internal teams and external collaborators (e.g., CROs).
CRO Interaction:
- Demonstrated ability to interface with and guide CRO chemists to achieve high efficiency and productivity in synthetic activities.
