Position Overview
As a
Mechanical Equipment Estimator, you will prepare, review, and present estimates for projects in the power industry. In this role, you will be responsible for performing construction installation manhour and cost analysis, coordinating with multiple internal construction discipline estimators, and acquiring pricing for construction support services.
District Overview
Kiewit Power Constructors (KPC) provides direct-hire construction services for Power Generation utilizing a union craft force. KPC builds major EPC power plant and solar projects throughout North America.

Responsibilities
- Support development of complete mechanical equipment estimates for large, complex power projects across North America
- Determine installation quantities necessary for mechanical work based on drawings, specifications, and past project equipment arrangements
- Develop and review bid packages for subcontractor and suppliers as required for the work
- Develop crane plans and determine construction equipment necessary to install mechanical equipment.
- Review the owner’s RFP and plans/specifications to gain a comprehensive understanding of the project
- Prepare and present your estimate to management team and external clients
- Collaborate with the disciplines to eliminate any gaps in work scope and/or technical deliverables
- Uphold a professional relationship with the estimating team, clients, subcontractors, and suppliers while consulting on various facets of the estimate process
- Stay aware of trends and developments, such as new equipment, methods, and procedures that are developing across the company and industry
- Mentor and train young Field Engineers and Estimators.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in mechanical, electrical, civil or construction-related technology OR extensive and related work experience leading to a thorough understanding of the knowledge, skills, and abilities as described above.
- 5+ years of related construction, field, or office experience
- Extensive knowledge and demonstrated experience with complex EPC or bid/build projects, specifically mechanical equipment scope
- Skilled in Blueprint reading and understanding/visualizing mechanical drawings and P&ID's
- Exceptionally strong attention to detail, communication, interpersonal and leadership skills
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products (e.g. Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Experience in Bluebeam, Hard Dollar, 3D Lift Plan, and/or SketchUp preferred but not required.
