Grant Accountant in Baltimore, MD
About the Company and Grant Accountant Opportunity:
- Our repeat client is a non profit in Baltimore City who serves members of the community suffering from hunger, homelessness, and poverty.
- Due to growth, they are looking to hire a Grant Accountant on a long term contractual basis to work in their Baltimore office.
- Reports to the Controller, who was placed by CFS
- Position is 100% in office in Baltimore City
- There is free street parking around the office in Baltimore City
- Hours typically are 9am-5pm Monday-Friday
Job Duties of the Grant Accountant:
- Grants Management
- Prepare all documents and submissions to government entities to ensure timely, accurate monthly grant invoicing, and optimizing grant reimbursement.
- Obtain contract expenditure reports from funders at the beginning of each grant period, ensuring timely grant reporting.
- Prepare and regularly produce grant spend down analysis reports and accounts receivable aging reports. Provide initial analysis for supervisor and Senior Management review.
- Collaborate with HR on salary allocations, for staff working on grants, to ensure proper grant billing.
- Maintain records on Security Deposits, Rent payments from clients, and reimbursements from HABC for Permanent Supportive Housing programs.
- Maintain a complete and organized file system for grant documentation including agreements, payments, and financial reports.
- Research, develop and prepare financial information and budgets for grant proposals, collaborating with Grant Development Staff.
- Accounts Receivable Management
- Process and manage grants A/R, updating tracking in real time
- Monitor outstanding receivables on a weekly basis and produce A/R reports
- Identify overdue A/R of 60 days and follow up with funder via direct communication by email and phone to resolve issues and collect payments.
- General Ledger Maintenance
- Responsible for preparing all Journal Entries related to Grants or Accounts receivable.
- Prepare grant analysis as needed to determine funding gaps, opportunities, and spend down rates.
- Prepares budget adjustments, changes in allocations, and grant budget amendments.
- Review all internal and external grants documentation to ensure all regulations and procedures are being followed.
Qualifications for the Grant Accountant:
- Bachelor's degree and 1+ years' accounting experience OR Associates degree and 3+ years' experience- preferably in non-profit/grant accounting
- Strong Excel knowledge (pivots, VLOOKUP's, etc.)
- Experience using Blackbaud Financial Edge a plus, but not required
- Tech savvy- someone who is comfortable with working completely paperless
- Must be able to pass a background check
