Painter Quality Control Tech
Schedule: Monday through Thursday, 6AM to 4:30PM Plus Overtime
Pay: $18-20
Position Summary:Apply sub-coatings and finish coatings to all metal components and finished product. Fulfill all painting requirements to include from parts painting to complete vehicle paint, both in solid and metallic colors. Mix all products according to specifications. Check all painted materials for proper surface condition and proper paint preparations and repair as required
Duties & Responsibilities: - Inspection and Testing: Conduct thorough inspections of automotive paint finishes to evaluate their quality, appearance, and adherence to specifications. This includes examining painted surfaces for defects such as color variations, runs, drips, orange peel texture, scratches, and other imperfections. Utilize tools such as paint thickness gauges, color meters, gloss meters, and visual assessment to measure and evaluate paint quality.
Quality Assurance: Ensure that automotive paint finishes meet established quality standards, both in terms of appearance and performance. This involves comparing paint samples against color swatches and performing tests to assess durability, adhesion, and resistance to factors like weather, chemicals, and UV exposure.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records and documentation of inspection results, including photographs and detailed descriptions of defects or non-conformities. Report findings to supervisors, production teams, or other relevant stakeholders, and provide recommendations for corrective actions or process improvements.
Process Monitoring: Monitor the automotive painting process to identify potential sources of defects or variations. This includes evaluating paint mixing and application procedures, monitoring environmental conditions (e.g., temperature, humidity), and ensuring proper cleaning and maintenance of equipment such as spray booths, guns, and drying ovens.
Calibration and Maintenance: Calibrate and maintain inspection equipment regularly to ensure accuracy and reliability. Perform routine maintenance tasks on paint testing instruments and coordinate with the calibration team or external service providers for proper instrument calibration.
Problem Solving and Troubleshooting: Identify the root causes of paint defects or non-conformities and work collaboratively with production teams, engineers, and paint suppliers to resolve issues. Analyze data, conduct experiments, and implement corrective actions to improve paint quality and minimize defects.
Training and Support: Provide guidance and training to production personnel on proper paint application techniques, defect identification, and quality control procedures. Offer support in resolving paint-related issues and promote a culture of continuous improvement in paint quality.
Compliance with Safety and Environmental Regulations: Ensure compliance with safety guidelines and environmental regulations related to automotive paint processes and waste management. Follow proper handling and disposal procedures for hazardous materials and adhere to safety protocols to maintain a safe working environment.
Requirements: - Strong knowledge of automotive paint systems, application techniques, and industry standards.
- Familiarity with paint testing methods, equipment, and quality control processes.
- Attention to detail and the ability to identify and assess minor defects in automotive paint finishes.
- Understanding of color matching principles, paint curing processes, and surface preparation techniques.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve paint-related issues.
- Good communication skills to report findings, collaborate with teams, and provide training or support.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and environmental regulations related to automotive painting.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced production environment.
