Principal Responsibilities:

The Family Law Legal Secretary is in charge of administering the Family Law department and working closely with the Family Law partner. Responsibilities include typing and preparation of correspondence and legal documents including agreements, pleadings and discovery; preparing documents for filing and service; preparing hearing notebooks; client intake; client contact; maintaining document management database; maintaining partner’s calendar, scheduling court appearances; research, special projects, organizing files and other assignments as requested

Education / Experience / Skills:

Education: High School Diploma required; college degree or Paralegal certificate desirable

Experience: 10+ years of experience in family law

Skills: Experience with Word, Excel and Outlook is required. Experience with Timeslips and Essential Forms is preferred. Experience with Worldox or other document management systems would be helpful.

Typing speed of at least 60wpm

Desirable Attributes: Stable work history

The ideal candidate will be a very thick-skinned self-starter with the ability to multi-task and work well under a lot of pressure and have the willingness to work as part of a team. Excellent spelling, grammar, attention to detail, organizational and communication skills are required.

Computer, telephone, copier/scanner, calculator, hole-punch, stapler

Typical Physical Demands:

Sitting at desk for long periods, lifting heavy files and occasionally lifting heavy file boxes (up to 30lbs)

Typical Mental Demands:

Prioritize assignments with direction from attorneys, rapidly switch priorities and manage multiple concurrent tasks as requested, maintain task list and follow up on assignments, rapid-paced environment
