Job Description – Full-time Web Developer

Overview:

The FAIR Data Innovations Hub (https://fairdataihub.org) is a division of the California Medical Innovations Institute (CalMI2), a non-profit biomedical research organization located in San Diego (CA). We are seeking a full-time Web Developer to join our team which is at the forefront of developing new tools, standards, and guidelines for managing and sharing reusable research data. The candidate will develop web applications aimed at helping researchers manage, organize, and share large datasets issued from biomedical research. We are looking for someone with an M.S. degree and at least 2 years of professional work experience for this position such that they can act as the technical lead within the team. The FAIR Data Innovations Hub provides a flexible and dynamic environment and the opportunity to make a real and visible difference in the understanding and treatment of disease.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Develop web applications aimed at managing, organizing, and sharing large biomedical datasets
Deploy and maintain applications, database, and more on the cloud
Build intuitive frontends using frameworks such as Vue/Nuxt, React/Next
Build robust backends using Flask/Python and/or other high performance applications
Work with Linux web servers
Maintain a user manual for the applications
Work with collaborators from multiple academic institutions

Minimum Qualifications:

M.S. in Computer Science or equivalent
High proficiency with git or other versioning tools
2+ years of professional experience developing web applications
2+ years of professional experience working with a frontend framework such as Vue, React
2+ years of professional experience working with cloud services such as Azure, AWS
Experience with the Linux ecosystem and containerization software like Docker
Experience using database languages like SQL and/or using ORMs like Prisma and Drizzle
Strong verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

4+ years of professional experience developing web applications
4+ years of professional experience working with a frontend framework such as Vue, React
4+ years of professional experience working with cloud services such as Azure, AWS
Experience starting and leading new web development projects
Experience working in a scientific research field

Expected starting date: ~11/01/2024 (flexible)

Hybrid (minimum two days per week on-site in San Diego, CA)

Salary: $100-140k/year depending on experience and skills
