Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Legal Assistant at Heffernan & Hickey Law in Orland Park, IL. The Legal Assistant will be responsible for providing administrative support to lawyers, conducting legal research, preparing legal documents, organizing and maintaining files, and assisting with client communication. Specifically, duties include:

Document preparation: Drafting, proofreading, and filing legal documents like motions, briefs, and contracts
Calendar management: Scheduling court dates, depositions, and meetings for attorneys
Communication: Communicating with clients by phone, email, or in person
Case file management: Organizing and maintaining case files, including producing and editing transcripts
Research: Conducting legal and background research when requested
Evidence collection: Collecting and filing evidence and information
Trial preparation: Preparing exhibits and documents for trial, and taking notes during trial
Billing: Preparing client bills
Record keeping: Managing administrative tasks like record-keeping

Qualifications

Proficiency in legal terminology and procedures
Strong organizational and multitasking skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Prior experience in a legal environment is a plus
