Job Title: Assistant Portfolio Manager
Location: Hartford, CT | New York, NY
Job Overview: Reporting to the Head of Alternatives in Investment Management (IM), the Assistant Portfolio Manager will be an integral part of a team comprising of CFA charter holders, Actuaries, and other investment professionals. The IM team is responsible for various critical functions, including:
- Developing the Enterprise Strategic Asset Allocation
- Making tactical decisions regarding asset class allocations versus targets
- Managing day-to-day portfolio activities and decision-making
- Overseeing asset-liability management
- Handling liquidity management
- Underwriting and selecting third-party asset managers
- Supporting asset modeling across the enterprise
Key Responsibilities:
- Identifying and Evaluating Investment Opportunities:
- Conduct thorough diligence on new alternative investment opportunities.
- Contribute to thought leadership in portfolio construction.
- Select and evaluate investment managers.
- Prepare materials for executive presentations to support investment recommendations.
- Manage day-to-day decisions and ongoing management of alternative portfolio investments once onboarded.
- Support modeling of the alternatives portfolio for risk analysis, financial forecasting, liquidity planning, and other needs.
- Engage with cross-functional teams (Legal, Finance, ERM, Actuarial) before and after closing investments.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher
- 3-8 years of experience in an investment or quantitative role within the insurance sector
- Investment background or focus (e.g., pursuing CFA credential)
- Strong analytical skills
- Creative problem-solving abilities, including navigating ambiguity
- Detail-oriented and organized; able to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines independently
