GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
The urodynamic technician position integrates a unique blend of skills in the subspecialty Division of Urology and Urogynecology, in a busy out-patient, clinic setting. This subspecialty environment is fast-paced, detail-oriented, and reliant on exquisite teamwork among the clinical team.
The urodynamic technician is (UDT) responsible for performing urodynamic tests and supporting the overall efficiency of patient flow within the urodynamic lab.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs urodynamic tests and enters the information into the EMR (Allscripts), accordingly and communicates with providers regarding the testing or test results as needed. The technician will have a 2 - 4 month training period - depending on whether the technician has prior experience
- Ensure she/he is competent and feels comfortable doing the testing.
- Assist on all usual urology and urogynecologic office procedures such as cystoscopies, bladder botox, urethral bulking, pelvic floor injections, etc.
- Responsible for catheterization of assigned patients under aseptic, atraumatic conditions: observes condition of patients and reports unusual conditions
- Collects urologic specimens from patients and delivers them to the main laboratory; carries out oral instructions and written doctor's orders
- Takes and documents patient vital signs, collects specimens and performs point-of-care testing as ordered
- Schedules appointments, laboratory tests and calls the outpatient department to verify appointments
- Reschedules patient appointments when necessary when equipment is dysfunctional and cannot be repaired in a timely manner
- Evaluate daily schedule to identify changes in patient appointments, early recognition of need to reschedule patients, etc. Scans patient reports into Allscripts.
- Operates, calibrates, and performs minor maintenance on electronic urodynamic equipment; ensures that urodynamic machines are functioning and accurate prior to daily patient appointments. Communicate with Laborie help as needed when the equipment is malfunctioning.
- Prepares and arranges instruments, towels, solutions, and other supplies for urodynamic appointments; clean and provides low- and high-level disinfection of all procedural equipment, including use of pessaries, UD equipment and UD machine following MGH infection control guidelines
- Maintain detailed equipment assessment pre and post procedures; daily and weekly quality control of all equipment; order and stock laboratory supplies.
- Complete and maintain detailed paperwork for all laboratory procedures; maintenance of lab statistics.
- Provides excellent customer service to patients and co-workers; explains to patients procedures that they will undergo; assists in lifting patients and assists wheelchair patients to stand or walk short distances
- Involved in unit quality assurance regarding documentation and core responsibilities related to UDT role
- Keep informed of current developments in urodynamic technology and methods by reading available literature that will be provided to the UDT technician by the practice manager or providers; acts as a resource person for professional staff on the use of urodynamic machines relative to the needs and characteristics of individual cases
Performs other related duties as required
Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS:
- LPN Or similar licensure
- 1 year of prior clinical experience

- Knowledge of aseptic technique and standard precautions
- Operate, calibrate, and perform minor maintenance on electronic urodynamic equipment
- Adapt the use of urodynamic equipment and procedures to non-standard individual cases
