Job Title: RN School (DOE)
Compensation:
- $75.00 per hour (Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens)
- $80.00 per hour (Bronx)
Shift: 8 hours, M-F
Schedule: September 2024 – June 2025 (Opportunities available for Per Diem, Part-Time, and Full-Time)
Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the health needs of students within New York City’s public, Charter, D79, and D75 educational settings.
- Provide direct care and case management for students with asthma, diabetes, allergies, seizures, and other chronic conditions.
- Educate designated school staff on the administration of emergency injectable Glucagon for diabetes management and emergency epinephrine for anaphylaxis.
- Facilitate referrals to primary, urgent, or specialty healthcare providers as necessary to address varying healthcare needs (e.g., 12s, C12s).
- Adhere to the Office of School Health (OSH) communicable disease control procedures by communicating necessary information to school administrations regarding student exclusion and readmission to mitigate outbreaks.
- Follow medically prescribed regimens for medication and treatment administration.
- Collaborate with students' healthcare providers as needed to support prescribed medical regimens.
- Review and analyze medical and health records of students.
- Document nursing services in the OSH Automated Student Record (ASHR) system or utilize manual documentation in its absence.
- Assist OSH providers during New Admissions Evaluations (NAE) and other examinations conducted within schools.
- Report any suspected physical or sexual abuse and neglect of children in accordance with mandated reporting laws.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and parent conferences to discuss individualized student care plans.
- Educate students, families, and the school community to promote overall wellness.
- Conduct conferences with principals and teachers regarding nursing matters while ensuring confidentiality.
- Provide ongoing health education programs to students, parents, and staff.
- Prepare reports as requested by the Office of School Health.
- Maintain an inventory of medical supplies and report any malfunctioning equipment or missing items.
- May be subject to COVID-19 testing upon onboarding; may also be required to perform COVID-19 testing.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 2 years of recent nursing experience as a Registered Nurse.
- NYS RN License.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification.
