Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our team in the portable sanitation industry. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for managing financial reporting, performing complex accounting tasks, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, and providing strategic financial insights to support the company's growth and profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Financial Reporting and Analysis:
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reconciliations.
- Review and approve vendor payments and customer invoices.
- Record or review general ledger journal entries.
- Conduct variance analysis and provide explanations for significant fluctuations.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial results to management.
- Create efficiencies in processing, while still maintaining strong internal controls
2. General Ledger Maintenance:
- Oversee general ledger activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end closing processes.
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial records.
3. Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
- Monitor actual performance against budgets and forecasts, providing insights and recommendations.
- Partner with executives and managers to understand what is important and needed.
4. Compliance, Review/Audit and Taxes:
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations, company policies, and accounting standards.
- Coordinate and support external and internal audits, including preparation of audit schedules and responding to audit inquiries.
- Assist and coordinate with external accountant to prepare tax return.
5. Cost Accounting:
- Analyze and track costs associated with portable sanitation services and products.
- Provide cost analysis and recommendations to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
6. Financial Strategy and Planning:
- Provide strategic financial input and leadership on decision-making issues affecting the organization.
- Support long-term financial planning and scenario analysis.
- Create KPI's and dashboards that will be helpful to operational leaders.
7. Team Leadership:
- Ability to mentor and provide guidance to junior accounting staff.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
8. Other duties, as assigned and necessary.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in accounting with financial statement preparation and reporting.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Experience in the portable sanitation industry or a similar service-based industry is a plus.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- High level of integrity and professionalism.
