APX is hiring a Sr. Control & Automation Engineer for our customer, a World-class manufacturing company in Buffalo, NY. This direct hire opportunity is critical in providing daily maintenance in specialized areas that require a multi-disciplinary base of technical understanding for complex troubleshooting, modification, assembly, and/or testing. Reporting to the director of Plant Operations, this diverse role will install, troubleshoot and maintain products/equipment by applying knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering theory and methods to the design of automation, intelligent systems, smart devices, or industrial systems control by performing the following duties.
- Designs, develops and tests all aspects of control systems and components, equipment, and machinery.
- Installation and operational qualification of tool/jig, equipment, control system, PLC-based hardware and software plus all associated documentation
- May use computer-assisted engineering, design software, and equipment to perform assignments.
- Applies principles and techniques of electrical/mechanical engineering to accomplish goals.
- Trains employees, identifies, analyzes, and repairs product failures, and orders and replaces parts as needed.
- Determines and recommends which products or services best fit the project needs.
- Promoting safety awareness throughout the workplace.
- Assure when designing or modifying equipment/workstations that ergonomics and safety are reviewed and work to minimize hazards through engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment.
- Assure Job Hazard and Equipment Hazard Analysis are completed timely as required
- Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
- Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Other duties/projects as assigned.
Education/Skills/Technical Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Automation, or Controls Engineering, Electrical or Industrial Engineering, required.
- 4+ years experience in equipment/system design (mechanical and electrical)
- 4+ years experience/proficiency in Instrument Control, Performance Analysis, Power Management, Process Optimization, Reliability Analysis, Schematic Capture, Statistical Process Control, Technical Troubleshooting, Control Systems, Device Integration, SCADA Architecture, Programmable Logic Control (PLC), Robotics, Human Machine Interface (HMI), Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) Software.
- 4+ years working within a variety of electrical and control system concepts, practices, and procedures.
- 1+ years experience within medical device equipment design concepts, practices, and procedures and an understanding of highly regulated industries
- 4+ years of experience using Solidworks or another type of design software (ACAD, Pro-E, etc.)
- Hands-on ability (basic electro-mechanical, wiring, etc)
