General Summary
Working under minimal supervision, the Senior Estimator will have strong knowledge of the Construction Industry and estimating processes and work with other Estimating team members and corporate leaders with estimating goals and policies. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in Heavy Civil, DOT / Municipal, Concrete Paving, Earthworks, Underground Utilities and Structures within both the public and private sectors.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Consistently monitors and evaluates industry-wide bid announcement publications and client or customer requests for estimates and prepares potential project information for team member review and final selection to pursue weekly.
- Attend pre-bid meetings or prospective job sites to determine project parameters and verify existing conditions.
- Prepares, reads or reviews project plans, technical documents, and specifications and coordinates with the other departments to confirm complete project scope.
- Prepares or reviews general conditions, schedule, scopes of work, site logistics and other exhibits as prepared.
- Performs and prepares quantity take-off reports, presentations, and pricing efforts for internal reviews and budgets. Maintains a digital record of those take-offs on Company devices.
- Collect and analyze data to estimate the time, money, materials, equipment, subcontracted, and labor required to complete the project.
- Prepare and complete cost estimates in Heavy Bid.
- Obtain material and subcontract quotes from vendors and subcontractors.
- Manage vendor and subcontractor quote comparisons and present to team for review.
- Build good relationships with vendors and subcontractors.
- Assist in Updating and maintaining HBC’s vendor and subcontractor database.
- Collaborate with engineers, architects, clients, and contractors on estimates.
- Prepare and present final bid proposal and technical documents. Assists in monitoring job costs once project has started.
- Develop preliminary project plan and schedule with other team members.
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft programs, Bluebeam, Adobe, HCSS (Heavy Bid).
- Present and participate in final executive-level meetings to ensure that the final estimate reflects the decisions of management.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Works with field and PM’s to produce monthly revenue & cost forecast.
- Helps resolve issues that arise in estimating and/or on the projects.
- Shows independent thinking and initiative consistently and regularly.
- This position is office-based working during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines.
