Overview
Works under the supervision of the managers of Respiratory Care. The Clinical Educator of Respiratory Care is a leadership position responsible for driving clinical respiratory practice, and the development, implementation, and/or performance of Respiratory Care educational programs.
Qualifications
1. Education: BS preferred. Completion of an approved two year AMA accredited Respiratory Care Educational program. Three years of practice in a regional referral center may be substituted for BS degree.
2. Licensure / Certifications: Must be licensed by the NC Respiratory Care Board and registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care. NPS required. NRP required.
Adult educator: ACLS, BLS
Neo/Peds educator: NPS, PALS, NRP, BLS
3. Experience: Previous supervisory or educator experience preferred. Maintains AARC membership Adult Educator: 3 years experience in a regional referral center Neo/Peds Educator: 3 years experience working in Neonatal Pediatric Respiratory Care

1. Assesses plans, develops, implements, and evaluates the educational needs of respiratory personnel and actively participates in providing on-going continuing educational programs, to meet these needs based on the age and development stages of the patient population served.
2. May perform moderate or waived point of care testing per CLIA guidelines.
3. Designs, implements and actively participates in the orientation process for new employees and students.
4. Manages individual staff competencies and identifies the learning needs of the department.
5. Implements, evaluates and monitors new techniques, products and procedures.
6. Maintains a current and extensive clinical knowledge base to facilitate respiratory care practice.
7. Maintains the Respiratory Care department web page.
8. Assists with the development and revision of departmental policies and procedures.
9. Maintains a regular, interactive presence in patient care areas. Adult educator is able to work in all adult patient care units requiring respiratory care. Neo/Peds educator is able to work in all areas of W & C Hospital, and inter-hospital transports.
10. Educates other members of the health care team i.e.; physicians, RN's etc. Designs and participates in appropriate continuing education.
11. Able to adopt a flexible schedule to accommodate clinical and educational needs.
12. Demonstrates standards of performance (ownership, teamwork, communication, compassion) that support patient satisfaction and principles of service excellence.
13. Performs other duties as assigned.
