Production Supervisor 2nd Shift

Our quality products have a heritage dating back to the early 1800’s at the Hempler’s family sausage kitchen in Borken, Germany. Hans Hempler worked in the family sausage business in Germany as a youngster. He served as an apprentice sausage maker and learned first-hand the family’s old secret recipes becoming a master sausage maker before moving to the United States. Reporting to the Plant Manager, a Production Supervisor provides and assumes responsibilities for 2nd shift across all operations. This position will lead, motivate and direct employees to maximize performance. This position will also collaborate with warehouse, quality assurance, maintenance, and other production departments as necessary to organize and control day-to-day activities across the plant to ensure daily manufacturing schedules are met. Production supervisor must comply with all regulations and procedures (GMP, Safety, Sanitation, Etc.) along with develop and promote a team culture within the department.
SCHEDULE: 12:00pm – 10:00pm
Wage: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 annually, subject to all required taxes and withholdings.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure that employees adhere to the daily production schedule.
- Assigns employees daily tasks.
- Troubleshoot problems.
- Monitors inventory.
- Manage 50-70 employees along with development across the shift.
- Coordinates all aspects of production through the completion of orders.
- Work directly with Quality Control to resolve any issues that may arise.
- Reviews projects and proactively work to reduce costs, simplify processes/operations, and improve product quality.
- Work effectively with other management team members, understands duties of each team member sufficiently to help as needed.
- Provide leadership and expertise to employees.
- Communicate issues directly to employees.
- Assist with performance evaluations.
- Facilitates development of employees through coaching, leading and training.
- Initiates counseling and corrective action for disciplinary issues.
- Ensures safety standards are complied with, and employees work in a safe manner.
- Assist in accident investigations.
- Avoid intermixing and contamination of product by utilizing sanitation practices.
- Ensure reports are completely and accurately filled out and done in a timely fashion.
- Conduct or attends staff meetings.
- Design processes or methods.
- Apply long term and short-term planning techniques.
- Oversee Projects and monitor crewing needs.
- Create and maintain an environment of continuous improvement.
- Ensures employees understand and exercise Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s)
- Establish, promote, and maintain safety standards, utilizing employee meetings, Safety Committee and effective training.
- Ensure that effective quality assurance programs such as metal detection and sanitation are instituted and operational.
- Ensure departments comply with all government regulations.
- Oversee the preparation of the production schedule to ensure it provides optimum productivity and personnel.
- Work closely with Operations leadership to ensure efficient execution of the production schedule, changeovers are completed in a timely fashion and all production standards are met and or exceed expectations.
- Monitors the warehouse operations to ensure maximization of the space, proper rotation of materials and cleanliness.
- Ensures finished product to be shipped meet specifications and is shipped in a timely fashion per customer requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 3+ years of experience in food production or similar production environment.
- 2+ years of supervisory experience.
- Must have strong working knowledge of Food Safety and Regulatory business standards, practices, policies, procedures and state and federal laws and regulations including but not limited to HACCP, GMP’s, SSOP’s, OSHA and Labor Laws.
- Understanding of TPM, Lean, problem solving, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Fluent in English, strong Spanish language skills a plus.
- Intermediate computer skills; particularly comfortable with Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft 365).
- Self-starter with effective leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to work off-shift days when needed.
- Experience working in a customer-focused and fast-paced environment.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
