As a dedicated Manager Senior for Decision Science Analytics, you will lead and develop a highly analytical staff that provides decision support for business areas across the enterprise. By serving as a strategic partner to the business this function will be responsible for applying mathematical and statistical techniques and/or innovative /quantitative analytical approaches to draw conclusions and make 'insight to action' recommendations to answer business objectives and inspire change.
We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Colorado Springs, CO, Charlotte, NC, Chesapeake, VA or Tampa, FL.
Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
This position can work remotely in the continental U.S. with occasional business travel.
The Opportunity
The
Senior Manager - Fraud Model Management will work with other team members, model validators they are overseeing, and the group Director to implement first-line model management activities on a portfolio of fraud and financial crimes models, while closely partnering with Bank Financial Crimes leadership, Enterprise Model Risk Management (MRM), Legal, Compliance, Technology, Model Users, and other partners. Strong candidates will be able to deploy the following work products and processes:
- Leads a team of model management professionals in the first line
- Project manages new model deployment efforts, partnering with Tech, Data Science teams, strategies and other partners to plan and implement model delivery
- Production of technical model documentation and conduct ongoing monitoring to coordinate with model partners on any performance changes
- Tracking the value and health of models with regard to loss mitigation and improvement to expense and Member experience, and use this information to prioritize deployment, retirement, upgrades and other enhancements to models
- Meeting with MRM validators and other partners to facilitate completion of MRM validation work and deliver key insights to model users on performance/strengths/weaknesses of scors
- Partnering with Director to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of metrics in ongoing monitoring
- Production of model change logs and update model documentation
- Attends meetings with Technology and business project managers to stay abreast of upcoming projects that may affect models (changes of inputs, changes to model outputs, new/different data sources)
- Keeps model inventory current and manages attestations
- Manages model implementation testing processes
- Develops and maintains model deployment playbooks
- Manage approvals from MRM, Legal, Compliance and other governance bodies
What you'll do:- Collaborates or participates with other analytical leaders in driving the strategic direction of small and large scale analyses using mathematical and statistical techniques and/or innovative/quantitative analytical approaches.
- Develops team reputation as highly skilled experts in decision science support.
- Oversees and coordinates analytical tasks which include the evaluation of the business problem, analytical methodology, validation, documentation and presentation of findings and recommendations.
- Understands and adopts emerging technology that can affect the application of scientific methodologies and/or quantitative analytical approaches to problem resolutions.
- Provides input to additional resource needs ranging from IT investments, 3rd party support or additional analysts.
- Provides support for business rationale and justification for additional needs.
- Understands the business direction, environment, and strategies for supported domains/clients, to identify and recommend solutions which influence the business and motivate change.
- Partners with enterprise analytics teams to build USAA core analytics capabilities and processes.
- Builds and oversees a team of employees for assigned functional area through ongoing execution of recruiting, development, retention, coaching and support, performance management, and managerial activities.
- Serves as a mentor for mathematical skills and statistical techniques and guides teams to use the appropriate approaches, to drive fact-based decision-making.
- Remains informed on current trends in data and analytics, such as Cloud, Data Mining, Python, Neural Networks, Sensor data, IoT, Streaming/NRT data.
- Finds opportunities to continue to learn in the data and analytics space, whether informal (E.g., Coursera, Udemy, Kaggle, Code Up, etc) or formal (E.g. Certifications or advanced coursework).
- Works with IT/CTO partners on new data and platforms that correspond to evolving abilities.
- Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
What you have:- Bachelor's degree in quantitative analytics field such as Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences, Operations Research, Data and/or Business Analysis, Data Science, or other quantitative discipline; OR 4 years of related experience in statistics, mathematics or quantitative analytics (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
- 8 years of experience in a decision support analytic function.
- 2 years of direct team lead or management experience.
- Demonstrates expert skills in mathematical and statistical techniques and approaches used to drive fact-based decision-making.
- Expert knowledge of data analysis tools, data visualization, developing analysis queries and procedures in SQL, SAS, BI tools or other analysis software, and relevant industry data & methods and ability to connect external insights to business problems.
- Experience with new and emerging data sets, and incorporation (data wrangling, data munging) into new insights.
What sets you apart:- US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner
- Graduate degree in a quantitative subject area
- 4+ years of experience with model validation or similar activities
- Experience in fraud/financial crimes model development

What we offer: Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is:
$138,230 - $248,810. Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
