Scope of Responsibility:
The Plant Manager is the senior leader at the facility and will lead a team of individuals responsible for all phases of plant operations including production and shipping and receiving. Will establish the plant culture and create an environment where employees are motivated, rewarded, and focused on performance and customers. The Plant Manager will interact with the home office to ensure alignment with the overall strategy and direction of the organization. Responsible for physical plant up-keep and capital improvements.
Essential Duties:
- Direct and coordinate all plant activities regularly reviewing performance against operating plans and established standards and provide reports to subordinates and management on results. Make changes and corrections in operations as indicated. Employ innovative solutions and creative approaches when possible.
- Provide positive, credible, energetic, hands-on leadership to assigned staff to ensure the achievement of plant and company strategic and operational goals. Proactively provide training and development for the staff.
- Oversee all financial aspects of plant operations including profitability, manufacturing efficiency and cost reduction and containment. Assist in preparing a facility budget and operating forecasts and monitor results against budget.
- Analyze staffing needs to ensure the facility is properly staffed with the appropriate number of qualified individuals at all times to meet business goals and customer requirements.
- Assist in planning and ensuring the effective and timely execution of all projects and strategies including any required coordination with other departments to positively resolve all issues.
- Investigate and stay abreast of operational, engineering and technical developments, best practices and recommend programs and program changes as indicated.
- Create a performance-based culture focused on achieving results, trust, and continuous improvement. Establish an environment where employees are engaged and feel confident in their ability to excel in their chosen profession.
- Work with corporate office regarding staffing plans, capital investment, and improvement projects.
- Work closely with quality personnel to review product consistency to determine trends and areas of improvement.
- Review established production schedules for all manufacturing departments to ensure established inventory levels are met while operating at the highest efficiency possible
- Work closely with the environmental health and safety manager to ensure all members of the manufacturing team are aware of safety policies to provide a safe workplace for our employees. Maintain and support a superior safety and “housekeeping” program
- Communicate with research and development as well as product management personnel to develop new product strategies
- Coordinate with purchasing to develop and improve supplier relationships

- Develop operational programs, policies, procedures and controls. Make recommendations to improve production flow, equipment performance, quality of products, and cost savings.
- Evaluate and recommend improvements to production scheduling to improve efficiencies.
- Evaluate need and use of outsourced services where appropriate. Carefully review and obtain required approvals for all agreements for outside services.
- Establish performance indicators, ensure sites meet or exceed and drive for continued excellence.
- Optimize efficiencies and improve productivity.
- Hire top talent, coach, train and motivate staff to ensure the highest levels of performance are met.

Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business/Management/Operations or another related field preferred.
- A minimum of five years of steel manufacturing (welding) and operations leadership experience. Full site responsibility to include production, shipping, inventory, maintenance, etc.
- Capability with implementation of best practices, continuous improvement, and lean tools including six sigma, 5-S, lean manufacturing, transactional lean,etc.
- Computer skills including Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Power Point) to analyze data and trends.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills, with the ability to balance production and maintenance needs.
- Leadership, team building, and advanced coaching skills; ability to work with teams and lead decision-making processes in a team environment.
- Demonstrated understanding of the principles and applications associated with manufacturing operations, maintenance, and engineering.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills and the ability to be adaptable and flexible.
- Ability to build relationships, engender trust, and inspire a strong sense of camaraderie and accountability; the ability to motivate employees across the organization to achieve higher levels of performance.
- Strong interpersonal skills; influencing, relationship and trust building, communication and listening, and personal engagement.
- Excellent communication skills: ability to effectively and persuasively interact with front line employees up to senior executives at the Board level.
Physical Requirements:
- Demonstrated ability to work with frequent interruptions in workflow and constantly changing priorities
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time with the ability to move throughout the office or outside manufacturing plant as needed
- Must be able to perform physical activities that require the use of fingers, hands and arms, such as sitting, typing, using office equipment and reaching
- Some additional physical activities may require walking, stooping, bending, twisting and handling of materials
- Position requires manual dexterity, arm-hand steadiness and a safety-minded individual
- Must have the ability to concentrate on tasks for long periods of time and be able to observe and receive information from all relevant sources
