Technical Service and Site Engineer
Location: Detroit Metropolitan Area
We are seeking a qualified Technical Service and Site Engineer with a background in electrical, mechanical, or automation engineering for our client, a leading Material Handling Systems Integrator in the Automotive space. This role involves installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining automation and material handling systems for automotive clients.
Responsibilities:
- Perform electrical, electronic, and mechanical repairs on automation and material handling systems.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment failures and recommend solutions.
- Handle part replacement and system upgrades as needed.
- Recommend systems and services that best fit customer needs.
- Work with various material handling systems, including Power & Free conveyors, Skid conveyors, FDS friction conveyors, Fork Transfers, Part Carriers, and other automation equipment.
- Observe equipment in operation and perform test cycles to identify issues.
- Conduct preventive maintenance following site-specific procedures.
- Assist with engineering studies to develop reliable solutions tailored to customer requirements.
- Interpret engineering drawings and assist installation crews during project execution.
- Manage small projects (under $1M) including creating bid documents, estimating costs, and facilitating meetings with customers and subcontractors.
- Supervise skilled trades and other associates as needed.
- Resolve on-site technical issues and communicate effectively with the project and design teams.
- Travel to job sites across the US, Canada, and Mexico as required.
- Ensure proper tracking of parts and inventory accuracy.
Qualifications:
- BS in electrical, mechanical, or automation engineering (or equivalent).
- 1-4 years of experience in material handling, conveyor engineering, or a construction/manufacturing environment, preferably in the automotive sector.
- PLC programming skills in a hands-on field environment.
- Experience managing subcontractors, schedules, and budgets.
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers, identify needs, and create sales opportunities.
- Proficiency in commissioning new equipment and troubleshooting existing systems.
- Familiarity with structural design and analysis.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Inventor, or other 3D modeling software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Project).
