Job Summary
The construction manager is primarily responsible for leading the EPCM team ensuring quality, environmental compliance, and adherence to construction plans through effective communication and daily fieldwork coordination. This role involves daily interaction with on-site personnel, contractors, consultants, and vendors.
Stakeholder Relations
• Foster cooperative relationships with all on-site Client/Partner and Contractor representatives.
• Review work plans, means and methods, schedules, safety measures, environmental measures, quality control measures, and coordination of trades and equipment.
Project Oversight
• Meet with Client/Partner at weekly/monthly meetings and EPC to discuss and resolve field operation activities and changes, quality, or environmental issues and concerns.
• Review and confirm the contractor's overall on-site activity progress and production tracking within the EPS tracking Workbook.
• Supervise Owner’s on-site superintendents (EPCM).
• Conduct pre-activity meetings with EPC to provide input and establish deviation requests.
• Participate in daily Plan of Development (POD) meetings and contribute to driving 3-week look ahead schedules.
• Coordinate with HV Project/Construction Manager EPCM support personnel to ensure clean transitions between scopes.
• Review various EPC design deliverables for the site, gen-tie alignment, and integration documents for O&M building.
• Recognize and mitigate risks in contracts, technical specs, and operations.
Document Management:
• Oversee project document management, including construction documents, permits, contractor submittals and transmittals, RFIs, delivery coordination, change orders, minutes of meetings, etc.
• Manage ECM and CIC for communication, tasks, and document interpretation.
• Facilitate processes and communications between the site project team, Client/Partner, and Owner’s Engineer.
Quality Assurance and Testing
• Coordinate QAA (Quality Assurance Audits) with third parties and EPC.
• Ensure implementation and maintenance of the project software platform/dashboard for accurate real-time reporting.
• Perform periodic inspections of Owner-supplied materials and coordinate onsite testing.
Safety and Commissioning
• Ensure that a Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) program is implemented effectively.
• Participate in daily commissioning meetings across all disciplines.
• Coordinate and provide onsite tours to stakeholders.
Project Support
• Act as a substitute for the Project Manager when they are unavailable.
• Report any engineering design and work sequence changes, roadblocks, or anticipated field issues to the Project Manager.
• Verify the accuracy of weekly and monthly reports with the project manager before publishing them.
Responsible for all daily reporting.
• Manage significant component turnover and punch list processes.
• Manage major milestones for Mechanical Completion, Substantial Completion, and Final Completion.
• Ensure project closeout.
• Verify percentage completion on project progress.
• Conduct schedule verification and anticipate critical path items that may lead to delays.
Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Experience
- A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Management, or another related Engineering Science (preferred).
- Minimum of 8 years of professional experience managing the construction of major projects, preferably in the building of utility-scale construction projects.
- Solar PV, BESS, or wind power project experience (preferred).
- Willingness to travel up to 100% of the time.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Projects, Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat.
- Proven expertise in managing construction projects from inception to completion.
- Record Keeping - Excellent skills in documenting meetings, decisions, site conditions, and change order defense.
- Safety trained for field work (OSHA-30).
- Self-driven to exceed internal and external customer expectations with proven leadership and management skills.
