Job Summary:
The Commercial Underwriting Officer is responsible for providing credit decision makers with the in-depth, independent risk analysis necessary for making informed credit decisions in the Commercial, Industrial, and Commercial Real Estate space. This role is not retail mortgage related.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Underwrite the creditworthiness of prospective and existing borrowers, particularly in the larger dollar and more complex C&I and Commercial Real Estate credits to assist lenders and credit decision-makers in determining loan eligibility. Ensure appropriate credit underwriting, reliable risk assessment, and credit loss minimization consistent with credit policy and regulatory requirements.
- Financial statement analysis including UCA cash flow.
- Guarantor analysis.
- Borrowers' repayment ability.
- The Bank's collateral position.
- Industry analysis.
- Prepare in-depth credit packages.
- Ensure the portfolio administration and risk management of each client relationship is in compliance with established credit policy, procedure and business strategy as well as commercial and regulatory guidelines.
- Suggest an asset quality rating based on relationship review. Compile an accurate relationship profitability analysis as directed by corporate policy.
Job Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or Bachelor of Science in related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
- 5 – 7 years' experience in credit underwriting or related experience with a focus on Commercial & Industrial and Commercial Real Estate deals in the $5 million to $30 million plus range.
- Experience with syndicated transactions is preferred.
- Some experience related to the underwriting of loans using the SBA 7A, Express and 504 loan programs, as well as the USDA B&I program preferred.
- Completion of a formal credit training program is preferred.
Preferred: (High School, College, Master’s Degree, certifications or license)
- Thorough knowledge of non-borrowing products.
- Strong underwriting skills handling moderate to complex credits.
- Excellent analytical, time management, organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to multi-task and work in a deadline-driven environment.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications a must.
- Must be self-motivated and a self-starter with strong initiative, accountability and attention to detail.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft applications including word and excel.
- Must be familiar with spreading financials in a spreading software.
