Job Title: Sr Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Chicago, IL (hybrid onsite 2-3 days a week)
I am looking for a highly skilled Sr Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in the Chicago area as a Lead Engineer. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME, Beng, Btech, BSMET, or BASc) and have 5+ years of experience in industrial or manufacturing design. In this leadership role, you will manage a team of project engineers and technicians, guiding projects from conception through completion, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality mechanical engineering solutions.
OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage and mentor a team of engineers and technicians, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
- Lead the design, evaluation, and optimization of mechanical systems, including chillers, refrigeration units, heat pumps, and combined heat & power (CHP) systems.
- Oversee and direct mechanical engineering projects, ensuring they meet safety, quality, and budgetary requirements, while also managing team resources and timelines.
- Develop and improve utility plants, steam and hot water systems, and HVAC designs for industrial and manufacturing applications, with input and collaboration from your team.
- Lead the design and implementation of boiler room layouts and systems, ensuring efficiency and compliance with industry standards.
- Identify opportunities for energy recovery and improved system efficiency in industrial processes, delegating tasks and collaborating with team members to achieve goals.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, architects, and construction managers, ensuring seamless integration of mechanical systems, and coordinating with other team leads.
- Ensure all designs and implementations comply with local and national codes and regulations, particularly in industrial and manufacturing environments, and oversee your team’s adherence to these standards.
- Provide expert-level support and troubleshooting for mechanical systems in both new construction and existing facilities, while mentoring your team to develop their problem-solving skills.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME, BEng, BTech, BSMET, or BASc).
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering within industrial or manufacturing settings.
- Proven leadership experience, with the ability to manage and mentor a team.
- Strong knowledge of Industrial Plant or Manufacturing Plant chiller systems, refrigeration, heat pumps, and CHP systems.
- Experience with HVAC design, steam, and hot water systems, utilities plants, and boiler room design.
- Proficiency in engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, or equivalent).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with energy recovery systems and improving energy efficiency in industrial settings.
- Familiarity with LEED certification processes and sustainable design practices.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated success in leading a team of engineers or technicians.
