Position Summary:
The Director of Materials is responsible for the strategic oversight and management of the organization's material procurement, inventory management, and supply chain operations. This role ensures that materials are procured, stored, and distributed efficiently and cost-effectively, supporting the company's production and operational goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning:
- Develop and implement materials management strategies aligned with company objectives.
- Analyze market trends and forecast future material needs to ensure availability and cost-effectiveness.
- Procurement Management:
- Oversee the procurement process, including vendor selection, negotiation of contracts, and management of supplier relationships.
- Monitor and manage the supply base to ensure quality, cost, and delivery performance.
- Inventory Control:
- Implement inventory control systems to maintain optimal inventory levels and minimize excess stock.
- Monitor and analyze inventory turnover and identify areas for improvement.
- Team Leadership:
- Lead and develop the materials management team, including hiring, training, and performance evaluation.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
- Process Improvement:
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
- Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and report on material management performance.
- Compliance and Risk Management:
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations and company policies regarding materials management.
- Manage risks related to material supply and develop contingency plans.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate with production, engineering, and other departments to align material requirements with production schedules and project needs.
- Communicate effectively with senior management to provide updates and address any issues related to materials.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., APICS) is preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in materials management, procurement, or supply chain roles, with at least 5 years in a leadership position.
- Proven experience in managing large-scale procurement and inventory operations.
