Chief Building Engineer – Life Science Facility

We are seeking a Chief Building Engineer to join our team, where you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the technical excellence and compliance of our state-of-the-art facility. Your expertise will help us maintain optimal conditions and support groundbreaking scientific research.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Supervision: Oversee the performance and maintenance of all mechanical, electrical, and craft services, ensuring seamless operation and optimal environmental conditions. Lead a skilled team to achieve top-tier performance and reliability.
- Facility Operations: Manage the efficient operation of facility systems, striving for zero downtime through proactive and reliable system performance.
- Collaboration: Maintain open and consistent communication with Building Management to align on services and operational goals. Work closely with the Portfolio Integration Manager to develop and deliver training programs for facility systems.
- Preventative Maintenance: Implement and manage a tailored preventative maintenance system that keeps our critical systems in peak condition, minimizing unexpected disruptions.
- System Evaluation: Regularly assess equipment and systems, providing detailed reports to Building Management with recommendations for improvements and upgrades.
- Vendor Management: Supervise subcontracted jobs, ensuring that external services meet our high standards when in-house resources aren’t feasible.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure that all operations comply with local laws, codes, and regulations. Champion a safety-first culture by enforcing policies and procedures that protect our team and assets.
- Resource Management: Develop and maintain an inventory control system, ensuring that all operating materials, tools, and equipment are accounted for and readily available.
- Work Order System: Support and manage a work order system to efficiently address on-call and unscheduled services, ensuring every task is tracked and completed to our standards.
- Operational Excellence: Establish performance standards for every phase of work, ensuring that quality and efficiency are maintained at all times.
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in Life Science facilities or similar environments, with a strong background in the operation, maintenance, and repair of critical systems.
- Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of life science/biotech infrastructure, including HVAC, DOAS, electrical, plumbing, generators, and fume hoods. Proficiency in reading blueprints, schematic drawings, and technical manuals.
- Leadership & Management: Proven experience managing vendors, budgets, and teams, with strong organizational and leadership skills.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal teams and external partners.
- Compliance & Safety: Familiarity with local laws and codes, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and compliant work environment.
- Education: A degree from an accredited four-year college or university is preferred, with equivalent experience considered. A background in Life Sciences, Biotech, or BioPharma is highly desirable.
