Role: Lead Architect
Location: Memphis, TN
The MSSQL Database and Azure SQL Migration Architect is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining robust Microsoft SQL Server database infrastructures and leading migration project to Azure SQL databases (Managed Instance (PaaS), Database (DBaaS), VM (IaaS)). This role requires deep expertise in SQL Server and Azure SQL architecture, performance tuning, high-availability solutions, and migration strategies.
This role requires expertise in database architecture, data migration strategies, and tools (Azure SQL Migration extension for Azure Data Studio, DMS).
Required Skills
SQL Server Expertise:
- In-depth knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server architecture, including engine internals, security, and performance tuning.
- Proficiency in SQL Server management tools such as SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), SQL Profiler, and Performance Monitor.
- Strong understanding of T-SQL programming and query optimization techniques.
Azure SQL Database Knowledge:
- Comprehensive understanding of Azure SQL Database architecture, features, and best practices.
Familiarity with Azure SQL Database-specific features such as elastic pools, Hyperscale, and serverless computing.
Data Migration Tools and Techniques:
- Experience with data migration tools like Azure Database Migration Service, Data Migration Assistant, and SQL Server Migration Assistant.
Proficiency in using Azure Data Factory for orchestrating data movement and transformation.
High Availability and Disaster Recovery:
- Expertise in designing and implementing high-availability solutions such as SQL Server Always On Availability Groups and Azure SQL Geo-Replication.
- Knowledge of backup and restore strategies for both SQL Server and Azure SQL databases.
Performance Tuning and Optimization:
- Ability to analyze and optimize database performance, including indexing strategies, query optimization, and resource management.
- Familiarity with Azure Monitor and Azure SQL Database Advisor for performance monitoring and recommendations.
Security and Compliance:
- Strong understanding of SQL Server and Azure SQL security practices, including role-based access control (RBAC), encryption, and data masking.
- Knowledge of compliance standards such as GDPR, HIPAA, and SOC 2 as they pertain to database management.
Cloud Services and Infrastructure:
- Experience with Azure cloud services, including Azure Virtual Machines, Azure Networking, and Azure Storage.
Understanding of hybrid cloud scenarios and integration between on-premises and Azure environments.
Preferred Certifications:
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
- Microsoft Certified: Data Management and Analytics
“Expected annual pay for this role ranges from [$60,000] to [$135,000].
