Ares Technology is seeking a Project Engineer for our facility in Sterling Heights, MI, to manage the execution of various military engineering development programs for one of Ares’ clients, related to their suspension products. This position will oversee all aspects of a complex and fast paced development program for upgrades to an existing military vehicle platform. The successful candidate will have schedule and budget responsibility and will be responsible for management of a global engineering team, as well as hardware vendors and integration partners. Ares has ongoing work with the client related to program shaping and future phase capture. This position will work with both client team and Ares personnel to ensure program success and future business for both companies.
Job summary:
The successful candidate will have responsibility for leading the team to successful completion of program milestones. Candidate will have frequent customer interface with US Government personnel within US Army Ground Vehicle Systems Center, Program Executive Offices, and potentially prime contractors. The Project Engineer will be required to represent the company in progress briefings, and planning meetings. Candidate will work with all stakeholders to define program objectives and timelines, and will be responsible for planning and execution, coordinating staff assignments, and reporting status to company stakeholders. Candidate will support business development staff in bid preparation, as well as ensuring capture of subsequent program phases. This position will require frequent travel to US Government customer sites, and/or team company sites primarily (although not exclusively) in the metro-Detroit area.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Create, update and maintain a detailed Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) including, but not limited to a WBS dictionary to determine requirements and program tasks
· Create, update and manage an Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) for the program
· Create and maintain a program budget based on pricing budget during quotation, the budget is allocated to the WBS elements
· Create and adhere to program plans and budgets over time
· Provide and update program reporting including progress, technical requirements and costs
· Create, maintain, and manage lists of technical requirements and timelines for projects
· Interface with various teams, including engineering to provide accurate timeline updates
· Create briefings and/or presentations on program progress, as well as perform regularly
scheduled performance analyses
· Manage progress and coordinate between engineering teams in US, UK & Canada
· Meet with US Government customer to provide updates to program plan
· Manage CDRL and SDRL timelines and submission
· Support accounting staff to submit invoicing in accordance with program milestones
· Assist business development personnel in shaping program according to company objectives
· Assist business development personnel in preparation and submission of bids and proposals for
subsequent program phase
· Perform detailed contract reviews
· Potential management of internal Ares development projects
· Other duties as assigned
Essential Qualifications
· Strong problem-solving skills and a reluctance to walk away from a challenging problem
· Be an ambitious and entrepreneurial self-starter
· Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business administration or related field and 7 to 10 years of work experience in a related field or 15 to 20 years of experience in related field
· Technical ability and understanding, including experience managing complex development programs
· Previous experience with US DoD programs and/or suspension products
· Familiarity with Government Work Breakdown Structure, Integrated Master Schedule and CDRL program management structures
· Experience with US Government contract language and administration
· Knowledge of budgeting and resource allocation procedures
· Ability to work positively with multiple individuals interfacing with program management
· Strong leadership and people skills
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Proficient in MS Project & Office 365 suite
· Must be a US Person as defined in ITAR
· Ability to travel domestically and occasionally internationally
Preferred Qualifications
· Expert level in MS Project
· Experience working with US military ground vehicle systems development programs. In particular US Army TACOM, US Army PEO GCS & US Army GVSC
· Technical knowledge of tracked vehicle running gear
· Retired Military Servicemembers
· Familiarity with Agile Development Methodologies
