Objective
The Electrical Design Senior Engineer (Switches) is responsible for the design and development of automotive electronic modules and components, inter-company coordination, and new product design. They also act as a customer liaison.
Essential Responsibilities
- Create new electronics product designs based on customer requests or internal development.
- Understand customer procedures and implements or adapts development to meet those requirements.
- Implement new designs into production by creating designs and following the entire development process.
- Assist the Quality Department in analyzing of warranty and other customer returns.
- Work in conjunction with leadership to develop long-range and short-range goals for self and department.
- Ensure on-time delivery of product development milestones.
- Prepare product or system layout and detailed schematics/drawings as required.
- Analyze test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
- Maintain customer engineering contact (as required) throughout the program, including program timing and technical development.
- Liaise with suppliers for quotes, specifications and samples.
- Update / Maintain current Nidec Mobility products through research and recommendation for improvement design opportunities of electronic modules and components. Verifying that all specifications are met.
- Support / Implement the ISO14001 Environmental Policy as it pertains to work activities.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Knowledge of automotive switch electrical design.
- Knowledge of LED lightingKnowledge of microprocessors, voltage regulators, PTC's, relays, and power electronics.
- Work with component suppliers to choose parts.
- Schematic capture and bill of material generation with AltiumUse Mathcad and PSPICE tools for worse case analysis.
- Familiar with DFMEA's.Work with remote team members from the mechanical engineering and program management teams.
- Able to test products in the lab to characterize performance and root cause product issues.
- Familiar with automotive EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) tests
- Work with customers on conference calls and occasional on site trips.
- Occasional international travel to Nidec Mobility’s Ontario, Canada area.
- Expertise from automotive experience, specifically automotive switch design.
- Able to communicate product and product processes with customer
- Experience with LED-based white and color-mixing system design.
- Experience with color equipment and lighting measurement tools, including spectrometers and light sensors.
- Power circuit design, component selection, schematic capture, and circuit simulation.
- Power dissipation calculation, worst-case tolerance analysis, and design failure mode effect analysis.
- Electronics prototype construction and bench testing.
- EMC compliance and design verification testing / review.Experience with 8-bit / 16-bit microcontrollers.
- Experience with modeling CAD tools such as LTSpice or PSpice.
- EMC knowledge is a plus.
- Mechanical tooling experience is a plus.
- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project).
- Must be able to support / multi-task to manage multiple projects / issues at one time.
- Must have strong attention to detail and work with a sense of urgency / accuracy
