Title: Senior IP Network Engineer
Duration: 6 months to start and opportunity to extend to 12 months
Location: On site in Austin, TX (5 days to start, will work to only 3 days eventually)
Team:
- Working in the Network Infrastructure Services Org
Day to day:
- Focus on IP/Ethernet configuration of various elements (e.g, servers, switches, router, ACLs) but not the main task. This is needed only to get us going when building a testbed and gluing things together.
- Testing automation, able to do networking configuration, connectivity, transport protocols, troubleshooting with e.g, iperf, Wireshark, speed test.
Skills:
- Strong Linux networking.
- Strong android / adb skills to configure phones & features, extract performance, metrics - Understanding of transport protocols, specifically TCP, QUIC.
- Familiarity with test tools in the lab (e.g, iperf, Wireshark, speed test) to either troubleshoot E2E testbed or to extract results during test execution.
- Good understanding of E2E network and configuration (including cellular or wifi) from networking perspective.
- Working in lab environment, hacky approach.
- Testing automation.
- Capable of putting testbed together in a lab environment.
Scope of work:
Network Design and Architecture:
- Develop and implement network designs that align with the organization's infrastructure requirements and business objectives.
- Design resilient and scalable network architectures to support current and future needs.
- Evaluate and recommend network technologies and solutions to enhance performance and efficiency.
Network Implementation and Configuration:
- Deploy and configure network devices such as routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
- Implement network protocols and services including TCP/IP, VLANs, OSPF, BGP, VPNs, and QoS.
- Conduct network testing and troubleshooting to ensure proper functionality and performance.
Infrastructure Integration:
- Collaborate with infrastructure teams to integrate network components with server, storage, and virtualization systems.
- Ensure seamless communication and interoperability between network and infrastructure elements.
- Participate in infrastructure projects to provide networking expertise and support.
Network Security:
- Implement and maintain network security measures to protect against unauthorized access, threats, and vulnerabilities.
- Configure and manage security appliances such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and VPN gateways.
- Monitor network traffic for suspicious activity and respond to security incidents as necessary.
Performance Monitoring and Optimization:
- Monitor network performance and analyze traffic patterns to identify bottlenecks and optimize resource utilization.
- Conduct capacity planning to anticipate future network growth and requirements.
- Implement performance tuning strategies to improve network efficiency and responsiveness.
Documentation and Compliance:
- Create and maintain documentation for network designs, configurations, and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards related to network infrastructure and security.
- Participate in audits and assessments to validate network compliance and adherence to policies.
- Collaboration to ensure the reliability and security of the organization's network environment.
Root cause network issues (IP, DNS, DHCP) impacting reliability of network services to end customers.
- Leverage experience in IPv4 and IPv6 networking, L2/L3 network protocols (spanning-tree, OSPF, BGP), TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, VLAN, VRRP, LACP, MC-LAG, EVPN with VXLAN, ACL to address issues.
- Leverage understanding of Unix, Linux systems and ability to modify scripts in Python, bash, scripting.
- Take packet captures and working with WireShark to root cause network related issues.
