POSITION SUMMARY:
This position works with the R&D, Operations Quality, Commercial and Procurement teams to support a proactive Quality System by performing a thorough analysis and risk assessment of potential new Raw Materials and Suppliers. They are responsible for ensuring that suppliers and raw materials used by Balchem facilities are safe, wholesome, meet all documented specifications, requirements, and regulations through effective data analysis and decision making. They will be able to communicate effectively with both internal and external suppliers and peers.
The Supply Quality Analyst reviews supplier and raw material documentation, assures compliance to the company's specifications, conducts the supplier and raw material documentation process, and assists with other Supply & Customer Quality functions as needed. They work with the Site Operations Quality teams to provide information for effective Hazard Analyses and develop specifications that support finished product requirements.
The Supply Quality Analyst may provide support for others within the S&CQ team at an assigned location, or within the broader Supply or Customer Quality teams.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for Supply Quality functions for assigned products and business units
- Conducts and documents hazard assessment and regulatory review for new ingredients and suppliers.
- Performs periodic review of current suppliers and ingredients.
- Initiates supplier and raw material documentation requests, with assistance of Supply Chain as needed, or through TraceGains.
- Gathers and reviews supplier and raw material documentation for new and existing suppliers and ingredients using various tools and systems.
- Coordinates cross- functional review & approval process, and files completed documentation.
- Assists with new product commercialization and change control processes.
- Coordinates with Commercial, R&D, Regulatory, Operations, Operational Quality, as well as greater Supply and Customer Quality Team to ensure that food quality and food safety, customer, company, and regulatory needs are met for raw materials and products to be produced.
- Develops Balchem Purchasing and Internal specifications for raw materials.
- Assists with raw material certification program requirements for ingredients used in Balchem, including, but not limited to Kosher, Halal, Organic, RSPO, Gluten Free, and Non-GMO Project Verified. Assistance with oversight of certification programs within other businesses as needed.
- Assists with vendor (Supplier Corrective Action Report) SCAR program.
- Assists with supplier audit program.
- Independent projects, as assigned by Program Manager or Senior Manager.
- Records, tracks, and reports appropriate KPIs.
- Utilizes systems and tools that may include TraceGains, USP/FCC, internal systems, and others.
- Participates in Root Cause Analysis investigations when needed.
- Provides support for wider Supply and Customer Quality, Operational Quality, and Regulatory teams as may be needed from time to time.
- Responsible for escalating major quality or regulatory issues and any incidents affecting food safety or regulatory status to Balchem leadership.
- Keeps up to date on applicable regulations and pending changes in regulations.
- Maintains accurate, up-to-date records and databases.
- Complies with all policies and procedures of the corporation.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Regulatory Affairs, or related field is preferred
- Coursework or certificate:
- PCQI, HACCP, US food regulations, Codex Alimentarius, foreign food regulations
- Prior experience may be considered in lieu of formal coursework or certificates
- 2+ years prior experience in food or dietary supplement quality or regulatory affairs
- Prior experience may be considered in lieu of formal coursework or certificates
- Computer proficiency should include word processing, creation of spreadsheets and forms, and utilizing the internet to research various topics
- Ability to assess and interpret complex data and communicate the same in an effective and proactive manner
- Able to work effectively in a team environment with minimal supervision
