Job Snapshot:
Position serves as a member of the Construction Services Department. Conducts routine inspections of work in progress to determine compliance with regulatory standards. Installs and maintains sediment and erosion controls at construction job sites. Assists in the development of Stormwater Pollution Preventions Plans (SWPPP) for a variety of construction projects. Prepares and develops support documentation for SWPPP plans. Operates company owned equipment.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $58,240 - $66,000 per year
Educational Background: High School Diploma Required. Associates Degree or Higher Education Preferred. Experience in some related construction trade. Hands-On Skills (Power Tools, Pulling Trailers, Securing Loads, Loading & Unloading Equipment). Computer experience a plus (Word, Power Point, Excel). Ability to review construction plans. AutoCAD experience a plus.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in some related construction trade. Utility locate experience. Ability to understand construction drawings and documents. Ability to review regulations and apply them to field conditions.
Work Environment: Smoke-Free Environment, Drug Testing & Physical Required, PPE (hard hat, steel-toed boots, safety glasses, safety vest and gloves), Some out of town travel for work assignments. A welcome balance between office work and field work.
Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, with occasional overtime.

Essential Functions:
- Schedule field inspections of construction and industrial facilities in an assigned area.
- Reviews build schedules, plats or construction plans.
- Assists with the installation, repair, replacement and removal of sediment and erosion controls.
- Operate fleet vehicles, earthmoving equipment, trailers, other field equipment as needed.
- Inspect various aspects of construction sites and industrial facilities to assure compliance with storm water ordinances and state and federal regulations.
- Interpret state and federal regulations, permits, and ordinances and explains such to the public, business owners, construction managers, general contractors, architects, local, state or federal inspectors, and construction managers at risk.
- Approves, selects, designs and evaluates best management practices and sediment and erosion controls for field applications.
- Assists in the administration of projects and plans.
- Record inspections and maintain records of inspections made; notes violations and/or problems encountered.
- Inform property owners, contractors, builders, and supervisors of storm water violations and administrative enforcement remedies.
- Awareness of construction and industrial facility storm water control methodologies and practices.
- Provides technical assistance in the implementation of a SWPPP.
- Supports senior staff with coordination in order to confirm relevant project information is communicated from the field to the Director.
- Serves as an environmental technician to support spill response and other related services.
- Attends pre-construction meetings and pre-bid meetings
- Responsible for assessment of BMP performance and BMP maintenance.
- Inspects for illicit discharge detection and elimination, dry weather screening and water quality monitoring.
- Assist in training procedures for contractors, project team personnel and industrial customers for environmental compliance.
- Assist with contractor workshops to provide educational opportunities relation to sediment and erosion control strategies, long term water quality objectives and permitting requirements.
- Assist in the development of new business opportunities, business markets, emerging trends, and developing technologies.
- Attend conferences, professional development seminars, and meetings to enhance skill set, regulatory acumen, and knowledge of BMPs, BMP application and use in the field.
- Participate in civic functions and philanthropic events for community development.
- Ability to listen to and communicate with customers on a variety of platforms (phone consultation, email communication, non-verbal communication, social media).
- Wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, pants)
- Leads daily tailgate safety meetings at the job sites.
- Ability to prepare and write technical documents.
- Good time management skills.
- Perform related duties as directed.
