Position Summary:
Aquila is seeking a highly skilled and licensed BOP Engineer, for our Houston location. This role requires specialized knowledge of drilling operations, hydraulic systems, and high-pressure equipment. The BOP Engineer will be responsible for overseeing BOP reliability programs, integrating BOP solutions, implementing cutting-edge technology, and ensuring cybersecurity measures.
Performance Objectives
- Review well plans and select BOP components (ram, annular preventers, control systems) to match the expected pressure and well conditions.
- Design BOP systems and select appropriate equipment for drilling operations, ensuring they meet operational and safety requirements.
- Oversee the installation and commissioning of BOP systems on drilling rigs.
- Test and verify the integrity and functionality of the BOP system before drilling operations begin.
- Conduct pressure tests, function tests, and routine maintenance checks to ensure proper operation.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues with the BOP system, including hydraulic, electrical and mechanical failures.
- Provide guidance to rig personnel on the operation and emergency procedures for BOP systems.
- Report and issues or failures to relevant stakeholders, including drilling supervisors and regulatory authorities.
- Ensure all BOP conditions comply with industry safety standards and regulations.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Petroleum, Electrical Engineer, or related field from an accredited university.
- Must have a PE (Professional Engineering) license.
- Familiarity with API standards and well control safety regulations.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- In-depth knowledge of BOP systems, well control principles and drilling rig operations.
- Previous experience in the oil and gas industry is required.
