Qualifications
• BSc/BA in engineering, construction science or relevant field required
3 years local general construction estimating preferred on commercial ground up projects (minimum 2 years)
• Proven experience as a construction estimator for commercial ground up projects
• Expert knowledge of estimating civil work
• Deep understanding of data analysis and estimation metrics
• Thorough knowledge of Houston and greater Houston market area including area construction costs
• Comfortable with numbers and technology
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to track multiple sets of data • Great attention to detail
• Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate clearly and professionally
• Demonstrated proficiency in the areas of: on-screen takeoff, estimating, scheduling and budgeting/cost control
• Complete understanding and proficiency in reading quotes, budgets, plans and specifications and knowledge of construction cost codes
• Expert proficiency of using take off and estimating software and the Microsoft Office Suite
• Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or other qualification is preferred
Responsibilities
• Proactively identify, evaluate and pursue projects within the company's scope
• Acquire a detailed understanding of the requirements of the project under bidding
• Collaborate and maintain good communication with clients, management, project manager, design team, superintendent, subcontractors and vendors
• Visit project site as needed to gather essential information
• Review documents or consult relevant design consultants to collect all necessary data
• Perform takeoffs on Planswift
• Organize and solicit bids from new and existing multiple subcontractors and material vendors for each project
• Vet each subcontractor's bid and ensure there are no scope gaps
• Create accurate and sound estimates from conceptual drawings through final plans
• Review contract documents and modifications to determine scope of work and equitable cost allowance for scope change
• Maintain knowledge of competitive advantages in the industry to aid bidding process
• Resolve cost discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information
• Foster ongoing relationships with key vendors (subcontractors, vendors, architects, etc.)
• Responsible for the overall bidding process with a keen focus on communications, detail, accuracy, quality, and profitability
• Ensure timely completion of multiple deliverables, and proactively address difficult situations in a positive cooperative manner
• Develop and maintain subcontractor and vendor database with accurate pricing information
