Sr Power Electronics Engineer II/III
We are seeking to add 2 Senior Power Electronics Engineer II/III to join our team, overseeing the design, development, and support of complex electronic power systems for the defense/aerospace industry. At the Senior level, you will be involved in full-stack power electronics development, from concept through detailed design, analysis, board layout, testing, and delivery. Candidates must have hands-on experience with power supplies, analog electronics, and product packaging for harsh environments. Power conversion, distribution, and management are our core design competencies, encompassing a wide range of platforms and capabilities from submarines to satellites. Our portfolio includes essential elements like EMI/power quality, embedded intelligence, and severe environment packaging.
Technical and Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop electronics circuitry, including topology selection, component selection, schematic capture, and PCB layout.
- Implement AC/DC and DC/DC power conversion systems.
- Model and analyze analog and power electronics designs, including worst-case circuit analysis, stress analysis, small signal and stability analysis, power loss and efficiency optimization, and power integrity analysis.
- Perform detailed schematic design and PCB layout in Altium Designer.
- Design transformers and inductors.
- Complete printed wiring board placements and routing.
- Select parts per requirements from a wide variety of electro-mechanical components.
- Prepare engineering analyses, including electrical stress/derating analysis and worst-case parts tolerance analysis.
- Develop and execute test plans for power electronics systems, including design verification test plans, requirements compliance matrices, system integration and qualification test plans, and production acceptance test plans.
- Perform bring-up and design verification testing of power electronics circuits and modules.
- Own end-to-end design of power converters, power management, and control circuits.
- Ensure compliance with EMI/EMC standards and best practices.
- Review applicable military and industry requirements, specifications, and standards for design inputs.
Project and Team Collaboration:
- Collaborate with global Engineering and Operations teams on new product development and R&D activities.
- Provide technical support to customers and associates.
- Mentor junior technical associates and maintain detailed project records.
- Assist in developing production assembly instructions, processes, and fixtures.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and teamwork.
- Present engineering design review materials to customers and the executive team.
- Present electrical designs during customer reviews.
- Participate in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives to continuously improve processes.
Requirements:
- US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status.
- BS in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Design, or equivalent.
- Minimum 7 years of related experience.
- Experience designing ruggedized, highly-reliable electromechanical systems capable of surviving harsh environments (e.g. high-g, high vibration, high and low temperature).
- Familiarity with IPC Class 3 high-reliability standards is preferred.
- Experience with EAGLE, MATLAB, and Python preferred.
