Role Description
This is a full-time hybrid role for a Staff Writer at The Dallas Express. The Staff Writer will be responsible for researching, writing, and editing news articles, conducting interviews, and fact-checking information. Some remote work is acceptable for this position, with a primary location in Dallas, TX.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough research to uncover newsworthy stories.
- Conduct interviews with sources to gather information.
- Fact-check information.
- Capture photos and videos to accompany articles.
- Utilize strong proofreading skills to ensure accuracy and clarity.
- Stay up-to-date on current events and trends in the industry.
- Collaborate with editors and other team members to develop compelling content.
- Generate compelling and original content focused on DFW and Texas for a diverse audience.
- Engage with current political, national, and global news, providing insightful perspectives through on-the-ground reporting.
- Develop data-driven series to enhance the depth and analysis of content.
- Fulfill requests as needed, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Proven experience in journalistic writing with a portfolio showcasing original reporting.
- Strong research skills and the ability to synthesize information from various sources.
- Proficiency in adhering to content overrides and editorial standards to ensure unbiased reporting.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage a general audience.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and adapt to changing priorities.
- Interviewing and Fact-Checking experience
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
